Good to go Friday
Steer (hand) is starting at first base and batting fifth Friday against the Phillies.
Impact
Steer had X-rays on his right hand come back negative after being hit by a pitch Wednesday during the conclusion of a suspended game, but he's been cleared to start Friday's series opener in Philadelphia. The 27-year-old finished June strong and is batting .408 (20-for-49) with three doubles, a triple, five homers and two stolen bases across his past 13 contests.

X-rays on hand negative
The Reds announced Wednesday that X-rays on Steer's right hand returned negative, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Impact
Steer suffered a right hand contusion when he was hit by a Brayan Bello pitch in the seventh inning Wednesday in the Reds' 5-3 win over the Red Sox. That game was the continuation of a suspended contest from Tuesday, and the hand injury prompted the Reds to scratch Steer from the lineup ahead of their 8-4 win over Boston in the second game of the day. While manager Terry Francona noted that Steer campaigned to play in the second game, the 27-year-old was dealing with enough swelling in his hand for the Reds to err on the side of caution and hold him out. Steer will benefit from a team off day Thursday before potentially making his return to the lineup Friday in Philadelphia.

Scratched from Game 2 lineup

Impact
Steer experienced swelling on his hand after being hit by a pitch in the seventh inning of Wednesday's resumed game from Tuesday. He was initially in the Reds' lineup for the nightcap, but he will sit instead while Christian Encarnacion-Strand enters the lineup at first base while batting eighth. With the Reds off Thursday, Steer could be back in the lineup for Friday's weekend series opener against the Phillies.

Cleared to start Wednesday
Reds manager Terry Francona said that Steer is dealing with some swelling in his hand, but the 27-year-old will start at first base and bat fifth Wednesday against the Red Sox.
Impact
The Reds and Red Sox are essentially playing a doubleheader Wednesday, after they resumed Tuesday's suspended game in the top of the fourth inning earlier in the day. Steer finished 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in the Reds' 5-3 loss, but he experienced swelling on his hand after being plunked by a pitch in the seventh inning. Though he'll have just a few hours to heal up between games, Steer is apparently feeling well enough to play the field and hit during the nightcap.

Smashes career-high three home runs
Steer went 3-for-4 with three home runs and four RBI in Friday's 8-1 win over the Padres.
Impact
Steer blasted a career-high three long balls, and it was also his second career multi-homer effort. The first baseman has begun to settle in at the dish following a sluggish start to the season, which saw him bat .185 and slug .285 over his first 34 games. Across his last 154 plate appearances (41 outings), Steer is slashing a healthy .308/.338/.507 with 16 extra-base hits, 20 RBI, 13 runs scored and three stolen bases.
