Blanks Guardians for fourth win Gray (4-1) picked up the win Tuesday, scattering three hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings in an 11-1 rout of the Guardians. He struck out three.
Impact The right-hander wasn't dominant but was stingy with baserunners, and what action Cleveland did have on the basepaths mostly got erased by three double plays. The quality start was Gray's fourth of the year, and he'll take a 2.17 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 49:11 K:BB through 49.2 innings into his next outing.

Short start Wednesday Gray allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and no walks with four strikeouts in four-plus innings, taking a no-decision versus the Guardians on Wednesday.
Impact Gray limited the damage to a Steven Kwan RBI triple in the third, but the Guardians put together a three-run rally in the fifth to knock him out of the contest. This was Gray's second start back from a pectoral strain, but it was a step back in performance after he notched five scoreless innings in his return. The right-hander has posted a 2.53 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 46:10 K:BB across 42.2 innings in nine starts overall. He'll look to pitch deeper in his next start, tentatively set for a rematch with the Guardians next week in Cleveland.

Five scoreless in return Gray did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing zero runs on three hits and zero walks over five innings against the Mariners. He struck out three.
Impact Gray was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Wednesday's contest and tossed five scoreless innings in his first start since May 29. The right-hander never allowed more than one baserunner in an inning and was able to work around a Taylor Trammell leadoff double in the third. After throwing 65 pitches to get through five inning, Gray was replaced by Griffin Jax in the top of the sixth with the game still scoreless. Across eight starts and 38.2 innings, Gray sports a 2.09 ERA with a 42:10 K:BB. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday's matchup with Cleveland.

Officially reinstated from IL Gray (pectoral) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Wednesday's start against the Mariners.
Impact Gray has been sidelined since late May due to his right pectoral strain and didn't require a rehab assignment prior to rejoining the Twins' rotation. The right-hander threw 30 pitches in a simulated game Friday and is expected to be available to toss approximately four to six innings during Wednesday's start.
JUNE 15 • ROTOWIRE
Returning from IL on Wednesday The Twins plan to activate Gray (pectoral) from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday in Seattle, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Impact Gray will be one of two top-of-the-rotation arms rejoining the Twins this week, as Joe Ryan (illness) will be activated from the COVID-19-related later Tuesday ahead of his scheduled outing against the Mariners. After landing on IL on June 2 with the right pectoral strain, Gray wasn't sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment, but he threw a 30-pitch simulated game Friday and should be able to give the Twins around four to six innings Wednesday.
JUNE 14 • ROTOWIRE
Rejoining rotation next week Gray (pectoral) is slated to rejoin the Twins' rotation sometime next week, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Impact Gray threw 25-to-30 pitches in a simulated game Friday and apparently felt good afterward, as he's been cleared to rejoin the major-league club. The Twins haven't yet indicated which day Gray will start next week, but the team will also get reinforcements to its rotation since Joe Ryan (illness) is expected to start Tuesday or Wednesday against the Mariners.
JUNE 10 • ROTOWIRE
Set to throw extended bullpen Gray (pectoral) will throw an extended bullpen session Friday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Impact Gray has been sidelined since late May due to a right pectoral strain, but he'll be attempt to handle an extended workload off a mound Friday. If the right-hander feels good following Friday's throwing session, it's possible that he'll be cleared to return to game action sometime next week.

Placed on injured list Gray was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right pectoral strain Thursday, retroactive to May 30, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact Gray exited Sunday's start against the Royals due to a sore right pectoral, but he improved in recent days and played catch Wednesday. However, the right-hander will ultimately be forced to miss several turns through the rotation. It's a discouraging setback for the 32-year-old, who posted a 1.65 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in 27.1 innings over five starts in May after returning from a hamstring injury. Yennier Cano was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, but it's not yet clear who will take Gray's place in the rotation.

Plays catch, status uncertain Gray's pectoral soreness has improved and he played catch Wednesday, but manager Rocco Baldelli said the right-hander could still end up on the injured list, Betsy Helfand of the S...
Impact Gray's progress since exiting Sunday's start indicates the injury isn't a serious concern, but the Twins may need to free up a roster spot given there's still some question marks with his availability a few days later. The 32-year-old may avoid the injured list if he shows significant improvement over the next couple days; however, Baldelli also said Minnesota "may end up having to make a decision that we don't really want to make in order to function better as a team."
JUNE 1 • ROTOWIRE
IL decision gets delayed Gray (pectoral) wasn't placed on the 15-day injured list after working out earlier Tuesday, but it's unclear if he'll be ready to make his next turn through the rotation this weeke...
Impact Manager Rocco Baldelli previously said Gray would be evaluated prior to Tuesday's doubleheader with the Tigers before the Twins determine whether or not he'll require a stint on the IL. The lack of a transaction perhaps suggests that Gray has made some progress since exiting his most recent start Sunday with right pectoral soreness, but he's not necessarily out of the woods yet. Reliever Yennier Cano is currently with the Twins' taxi squad and would be the logical candidate to replace Gray on the roster if Gray is eventually deactivated.
MAY 31 • ROTOWIRE
May hit injured list Gray (pectoral) woke up sore Monday and may need a trip to the injured list, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact Gray made it into the seventh inning of a strong start Sunday against the Royals before exiting with right pectoral soreness. The results of his MRI are not yet known, but Twins manager Rocco Baldelli appeared to be pessimistic about the righty's availability given that he remains sore. Whether or not he'd have to miss more than just two turns in the rotation if a trip to the injured list does wind up being required is not yet clear.

Sonny Gray and Zack Greinke hurt as Twins beat Royals 7-3

Injuries to Royce Lewis, Sonny Gray, Byron Buxton mar Twins' 7-3 victory over Royals Byron Buxton batted later in the game, but the injuries to the team's top prospect and starting pitcher were more concerning.
MAY 29 • STARTRIBUNE.COM
Managing pectoral soreness Gray was diagnosed with right pectoral soreness after leaving Sunday's start against Kansas City, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact The veteran right-hander fired six scoreless innings before suffering the injury during the seventh inning, and the one runner he left on base was allowed to score by the bullpen. Gray remains in line to pick up his third straight win, but his health is obviously the more pressing concern. The severity of the injury remains unclear, leaving Gray's availability in question going forward.
MAY 29 • ROTOWIRE
Leaves with apparent arm issue Gray was removed from Sunday's start against the Royals with an apparent arm injury, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Impact Gray limited Kansas City to one single through six scoreless frames but gave up a leadoff single during the seventh and exited during the middle of the following at-bat. The 32-year-old appeared to be stretching out his right arm/shoulder before leaving the field with the training staff. It's unclear whether he'll be available for his next turn through the rotation.
