Lands on IL with illness
The Twins placed Woods Richardson on the 15-day injured list Monday due to illness.
Impact
Woods Richardson had a scheduled start over the weekend pushed back due to a stomach bug, and he wasn't able to recover from the illness quickly enough to avoid a stint on the IL. The right-hander is eligible to return Aug. 16 and should be ready for activation at that time or shortly after. In the meantime, Jose Urena will continue to occupy Woods Richardson's spot in the Twins' rotation.

Battling stomach problems
Woods Richardson had his start pushed back from Sunday to Wednesday due to stomach issues, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Impact
The 24-year-old was penciled in to start Sunday in Cleveland but now lines up to pitch Wednesday in Detroit due to the stomach problems. Woods Richardson hasn't given up more than three earned runs in any of his past eight outings and has a 2.58 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 30:18 K:BB across 38.1 innings during that span.

Next start delayed
Woods Richardson will no longer start Sunday's game against the Guardians, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.
Impact
The Twins will give Woods Richardson a few extra days of rest after the 24-year-old opened the second half of the season with a 7.04 ERA and 2.09 WHIP through 7.2 innings over two starts. Jose Urena will take the mound to begin Sunday's contest instead; meanwhile, Minnesota has yet to announce when Woods Richardson will make his next start.

Chased in fifth inning
Woods Richardson didn't factor into the decision Monday against the Red Sox, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out five.
Impact
Woods Richardson pitched four scoreless innings to begin his outing, but Alex Bregman launched a three-run home run in the fifth frame to leave a major mark on the hurler's ledger. Although the right-hander tallied his most punchouts since his June 26 start versus the Mariners, the seven hits allowed were his most since June 10 against the Rangers. Woods Richardson will take a pedestrian 4.24 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 69:35 K:BB across 80.2 innings into his next scheduled appearance, currently slated for this weekend in Cleveland against the Guardians.

Lacks control Tuesday
Woods Richardson allowed three runs on two hits and five walks while striking out two over three innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Tuesday.
Impact
Woods Richardson benefited from a strong showing by the Twins' offense, because his pitching alone wasn't getting the job done. He threw just 28 of 58 pitches for strikes in his first start coming out of the All-Star break. Prior to the break, he posted a 1.47 ERA and 0.91 WHIP over his previous six starts, so this was a significant step back for the right-hander. He's now at a 4.14 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 64:33 K:BB through 76 innings across 16 appearances (15 starts) this season. The 24-year-old will look to bounce back next week in a home start versus the Red Sox. While Woods Richardson has been just average, it's likely one of David Festa or Zebby Matthews is at a higher risk of losing the last spot in the rotation when Bailey Ober (hip) returns.

Holds Pirates in check
Woods Richardson did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 2-1 loss against the Pirates, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over 4.2 innings while striking out three.
Impact
The lone blemish on Woods Richardson's line came on a solo homer to Tommy Pham in the second inning, but he rebounded with back-to-back perfect frames in the third and fourth before being lifted shy of 80 pitches for the third straight start. The 24-year-old has been excellent lately, allowing one earned run or fewer in five of his last six starts while posting a 1.47 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 30.2 innings over that stretch. The right-hander will look to continue this impressive run after the all-star break.

Shuts down Cubs
Woods Richardson (5-4) tossed five scoreless frames in a win against the Cubs on Tuesday, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out four.
Impact
Though it wasn't flashy, Woods Richardson cruised through five shutout innings against the major league leader in runs per game. He only threw 61 pitches, and it appears pulling him was a tactical move, as he was due to face the heart of the Cubs order for a third time. Woods Richardson has a 1.38 ERA and is holding opponents to just a .126 batting average over his last five starts while racking up three straight wins. He lines up to make one final start before the All-Star break this weekend against the Pirates.

Nabs second straight win
Woods Richardson (4-4) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over five innings in a 2-1 victory over the Marlins. He struck out three.
Impact
The right-hander got the hook after 75 pitches (50 strikes), and while he hasn't been providing the Twins with much length, Woods Richardson has at least been giving them stronger results of late. Over his last four trips to the mound, he's posted a 1.71 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB through 21 innings. With Bailey Ober (hip) joining Zebby Matthews (shoulder) and Pablo Lopez (shoulder) on the IL this week, Woods Richardson's spot in the rotation seems very secure regardless of his numbers. He'll look to extend his win streak to three in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Cubs.
