Recalled from Triple-A The Astros recalled Dubin from Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Dubin will take the place of Brandon Bielak after Bielak was optioned to Triple-A in the corresponding move. In nine appearances for Sugar Land in 2023, Dubin has registered an unhealthy 7.96 ERA with a 1.69 WHIP over 26 appearances. He'll likely be a multi-inning reliever for low-leverage situations while with the Astros.

Out with elbow strain Dubin was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Sugar Land with a right elbow strain, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact The 27-year-old righty could have been an option for spot starts in the big-league rotation amid recent injuries to Luis Garcia and Jose Urquidy if he'd been pitching well and was healthy. However, Dubin had a 6.27 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 18.2 innings prior to the injury. He should be considered out indefinitely.

Moves to minor-league camp Dubin was optioned to Houston's minor-league camp Sunday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Dubin has been with the big-league club to start spring training but will now shift over to the minor-league side. The right-hander posted a 4.78 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 80:32 K:BB over 58.1 innings at Triple-A Sugar Land last season, and he'll likely need improved results in 2023 if he's going to make his MLB debut.

Impact Dubin has yet to appear for Sugar Land since being activated, but he's ostensibly healthy again after he was on the shelf since late June with a right forearm strain. Prior to being reinstated, Dubin struck out two over a pair of scoreless innings during his two-start rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League.

Managing forearm injury The Astros announced Thursday that Dubin is dealing with a right forearm strain, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Dubin has been on the 7-day minor-league injured list since the start of the regular season, but he's made 13 appearances (seven starts) at Triple-A Sugar Land. He's posted a 6.00 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 36 innings, but he hasn't pitched since June 21, and it's not yet clear when he'll make his next appearance.

Impact Dubin is expected to return to Triple-A Sugar Land to begin the 2022 campaign after he turned in a 3.44 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 69:19 K:BB in 49.2 innings with the affiliate a season ago. After being added to the 40-man roster over the offseason, Dubin should be on the shortlist for a call-up to the big club if the Astros have a need for a spot starter or multi-inning reliever.
