Parts ways with Arizona Frankoff was released by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Impact Frankoff has been at Triple-A Reno since returning from the 60-day injured list in mid-August, and he'll now head to free agency. The 33-year-old allowed 15 earned runs with an 11:9 K:BB over 14.2 innings (four appearances) with the Diamondbacks before landing on the shelf.

Impact Frankoff recently made two rehab starts at Triple-A Reno and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits and six walks while striking out six in 7.2 innings. It's not very surprising to see him remain in the minors since he's posted a 9.20 ERA and 1.98 WHIP in the majors this year.

Impact The Diamondbacks seem to be having Frankoff build up for starting duty during his rehab assignment, but he likely won't be anything more than an insurance option in the event the big club loses a rotation member at any point in the second half. Even if a starting role opens up for Frankoff, he's unlikely to provide much fantasy value after posting a 9.20 ERA and 1.98 WHIP across his 14.2 innings in the majors this season before landing on the 60-day injured list with a right forearm injury.

Impact Frankoff landed on the shelf with soreness in his right forearm June 4, and he'll now be sidelined for at least two months due to the injury. The 32-year-old will be eligible to be activated in early August.

Impact Frankoff had worked as a starter for Arizona in each of his last three outings, but after posting a 9.22 ERA and 1.90 WHIP across those games, manager Torey Lovullo has at least temporarily chosen to remove him from the rotation. Arizona currently has four starters (Zac Gallen, Madison Bumgarner, Taylor Widener and Luke Weaver) on the injured list, but due to a pair of upcoming off days, the team will be able to get by with a streamlined four-man rotation until at least mid-June. Expect Frankoff to continue working in a low-leverage relief role for the time being.

May be tipping pitches Arizona pitching coach Matt Herges thinks Frankoff may have been tipping pitches in Saturday's loss to the Cardinals, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Impact Frankoff was tagged for seven runs on seven hits and four walks Saturday, but Herges wasn't ready to blame the entire outing pitch-tipping. "I think with his change-up sometimes it's a different look (compared to his other pitches)," Herges said. "But he's working hard to figure it out. He's becoming more inconsistent with it, which is a good sign." Frankoff is next slated to pitch Thursday on the road against the Brewers.

Impact Frankoff threw just 2.2 innings in his return from the KBO this season, and those innings certainly didn't go the way he would have wanted. He allowed five runs on six hits while walking two and striking out none. As a 32-year-old with just 4.2 MLB innings to his name, he's unlikely to play a major role next season.
