INJURIES

Reaches free agency Nolin elected free agency Friday.
Impact Nolin made a three-inning appearance for the Marlins in April but otherwise spent the entire 2023 campaign in the minors. The 33-year-old southpaw compiled a 4.37 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 22.2 innings at Triple-A Jacksonville but didn't make any appearances after the All-Star break due to an unspecified injury.

Outrighted to Triple-A Nolin was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville by the Marlins on Thursday.
Impact Miami designated Nolin for assignment Tuesday and he passed through waivers unclaimed. The 33-year-old left-hander owns a career 6.34 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 37:28 K:BB in 61 total innings at the major-league level.
APRIL 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Designated for assignment Nolin was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for Bryan Hoeing, who is joining the Marlins' rotation Tuesday night in Atlanta. Nolin surrendered six earned runs over three innings of relief Monday while making his first appearance in the majors since 2021.
APRIL 25, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Added to roster The Marlins selected Nolin's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Nolin had made just one appearance with Jacksonville, allowing four runs -- three earned -- over four innings. He'll give the bullpen a fresh arm and his stay figures to be a short one.
APRIL 24, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Elects free agency Nolin elected free agency after he was outrighted to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Nolin made his return to the majors during the 2021 campaign and posted a 4.39 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 26.2 innings across 10 appearances (five starts). The 31-year-old will now be free to seek out other opportunities during the offseason.
OCTOBER 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Moves to bullpen Nolin tossed three scoreless innings of long relief Saturday in the Nationals' 6-0 loss to the Rockies. He scattered three walks and a base hit and struck out two in the 51-pitch a...
Impact Before he was handed a five-game suspension for throwing at Atlanta's Freddie Freeman in a Sept. 8 outing, Nolin had picked up five starts for Washington, posting a 5.60 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across those outings. Rather than returning Nolin to the rotation once his suspension was completed, Washington elected to keep Josh Rogers in the fold as its fifth starter. Unless the Nationals lose another rotation member over the final two weeks of the season, Nolin looks like he'll work out of the bullpen down the stretch.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Returns from suspension The Nationals activated Nolin (suspension) ahead of Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
Impact Nolin is back in the fold for Washington after he completed his five-game suspension Tuesday. Before receiving the ban for intentionally throwing at Freddie Freeman in his Sept. 8 start, Nolin had compiled a 5.60 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 17.2 innings. Those poor numbers make it far from a safe bet that Nolin will take back a rotation spot from Josh Rogers, who gave up two runs on 6.2 innings in his previous start last weekend in Pittsburgh. Rogers will get another starting nod Wednesday, and Nolin will likely be available in bulk relief if needed.

Drops appeal Nolin will begin serving his five-game suspension Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Nolin initially planned to appeal his suspension for intentionally hitting Freddie Freeman on Wednesday, but he'll be unavailable for the next five games after he dropped his appeal. The southpaw's suspension is unlikely to have a significant impact on his next turn through the rotation, as the team will be able to push him back a day. Nolin now tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Marlins on Wednesday.

Appealing five-game suspension Nolin was handed a five-game suspension Friday for intentionally hitting Freddie Freeman with a pitch earlier in the week, but he'll appeal the ban and will remain available until...
Impact Nolin appeared to be retaliating for an incident in which Juan Soto was hit by a pitch Tuesday, as he threw behind Freeman with his first pitch the next day and hit him with his second. Manager Dave Martinez was also handled a one-game ban and will elect not to appeal.

Ejected early Wednesday Nolin was ejected during the first inning of Wednesday's game against Atlanta for intentionally hitting Freddie Freeman with a pitch, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports...
Impact Nationals star Juan Soto was plunked during the ninth inning of Tuesday's contest, and this appeared to be a direct retaliation by the left-hander. Nolin threw behind Freeman on the first pitch before hitting him with the second offering, after which he was ejected. Washington's bullpen will need to record all but one out Wednesday, while Nolin is likely to face additional discipline from the league.
SEPTEMBER 9, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Solid in no-decision Nolin didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-2 extra-inning loss to the Mets, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out three.
Impact Facing the Mets for the third time in four starts since joining the Nats' rotation, Nolin didn't have much trouble navigating through the New York lineup despite the familiarity. The journeyman southpaw tossed 63 of 102 pitches for strikes but was in line for his third loss of the year until the Washington offense finally showed a flicker of life against Edwin Diaz in the ninth inning. Nolin has managed a palatable 3.48 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 9:1 K:BB through 10.1 innings over his last two outings, and the organization has no better options for his rotation spot.

Nolin expected to start for the Nationals against the Mets

SEPTEMBER 3, 2021 • Associated Press
Strikes out six in no-decision Nolin allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts through 5.1 innings, taking a no-decision in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Mets.
Impact In just his third major league start since returning from a six-year hiatus, Nolin poured in his best outing of the season. He handled everybody not named Kevin Pillar on the night, as the only damage to his line came via two solo homers off the bat of the Mets' outfielder. While the six strikeouts are a season high for the well-travelled lefty, he has now allowed four home runs in just 12.1 innings.

Coughs up three runs Nolin (0-2) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks over four innings Sunday, striking out five and taking a loss against Milwaukee.
Impact Nolin's rough afternoon started right out of the gate with Kolten Wong taking him deep for a leadoff homer on Nolin's second pitch of the game. The 31-year-old southpaw then gave up a two-run triple to Wong in the fourth. In his two big-league appearances this season, Nolin's been tagged with seven runs in as many innings while taking a loss in both. For now, it's unclear if he'll get another turn in the rotation.

Set to start Sunday Nolin will start Sunday's game against the Brewers, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Nolin took the loss in Game 1 of the Aug. 12 doubleheader against the Mets, allowing four runs on eight hits across three innings. Despite the underwhelming outing, the left-hander will get another opportunity to get his second career big-league win Sunday. Per Mark Zuckerman, manager Davey Martinez wouldn't commit to Nolin taking Joe Ross' (elbow) rotation spot permanently, but that figures to be a possibility.
