Short stay expected
Alexander (shoulder) isn't expected to miss much more than the minimum 10 days while on the injured list, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Impact
Alexander will be eligible to return Friday and is expected to return that day or not long after. He was having a strong season before his shoulder inflammation popped up, posting a 2.31 ERA and 0.69 WHIP through 11.2 innings.

Placed on injured list
Alexander was placed on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation Thursday, retroactive to May 3.
Impact
Alexander was dealing with shoulder soreness in Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs, and he'll now miss additional time after he was diagnosed with inflammation. It's not yet clear when the left-hander will be able to return to the mound, but right-hander Joe Kelly (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Available Wednesday
Alexander (shoulder) will be available in the bullpen Wednesday against the Cubs, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Impact
The lefty reliever was unavailable for both games of Tuesday's doubleheader due to shoulder soreness, but manager Dave Roberts says he's recovered and is ready to pitch. Alexander has posted a 2.31 ERA in 11.2 innings with five strikeouts and one walk.

Battling soreness
Alexander was unavailable for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs due to unspecified soreness, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact
The 31-year-old likely would have pitched Tuesday if available, but Garrett Cleavinger ended up being the lefty called upon to close out Game 2 and take the loss in extras. Alexander should be considered day-to-day, but a trip to the injured list could be in the cards if he won't soon be cleared after the Dodgers utilized eight relievers during the twin bill.

Takes loss in relief
Alexander (0-1) allowed one run (zero earned) while pitching two-thirds of an inning to take the loss against the Padres on Sunday.
Impact
Alexander recorded the last out of the seventh inning before the leadoff batter and eventual game-winning run in the eighth inning reached via error. Although he didn't allow any hits or walks, he was stuck with the loss. The 31-year-old only has one appearance this season where he allowed two runs to the Nationals, otherwise he has 4.1 scoreless innings. Alexander pitches for contact, recording only one strikeout this season.

Claims spot in bullpen
Alexander has been awarded a spot in the Dodgers' Opening Day bullpen, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Impact
Alexander will give the Dodgers a second matchup lefty out of the bullpen to complement Victor Gonzalez. Fellow southpaw David Price will serve as more of a multi-inning option. The 31-year-old Alexander saw his effectiveness wane during his third season with the Dodgers in 2020, giving up four runs on nine hits and nine walks over 12.1 innings.

Uneventful spring
Alexander has allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk in Cactus League play while striking out three.
Impact
The left-hander is slated for a middle-relief role in the Dodgers' bullpen this season. He doesn't strike out many batters or get many holds, so he's a non-factor in fantasy leagues.

Gets $1 million from Dodgers
Alexander agreed to a one-year, $1 million deal with the Dodgers on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Impact
He was optioned Sept. 2 and left off the Dodgers' postseason roster, but the team still likes his outlook for the 2021 season. Alexander, 31, is arguably the best lefty groundball specialist in the game (career 70.9 GB%), which has allowed him to suppress runs without missing many bats (17.3 K% in 2020).
