Ka'ai Tom - Inks minor-league deal Tom signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Impact Tom was released by the Pirates on Monday, but he'll head to Triple-A Sacramento late in the regular season. Across 23 minor-league appearances this year, the 27-year-old has slashed .190/.299/.310 with two home runs, seven RBI and six runs.

Webster Rivas - Recalled Friday Rivas was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

Impact With a thumb strain ending Austin Nola's season, Rivas will rejoin the big-league roster to lend a hand with the catching duties during the closing stretch of the season. Rivas played in 21 games for the Padres earlier this season, hitting .220/.303/.356 with two homers and four RBI across 67 plate appearances.

Austin Nola - Set for season-ending surgery Nola was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left thumb strain and will undergo season-ending surgery, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Impact It's not entirely clear when the issue initially arose, but it seems possible that Nola has been trying to play through the injury for a while. The backstop concludes the campaign with two homers to go along with a .272/.340/.376 slash line across 194 plate appearances. Webster Rivas was recalled from Triple-A El Paso and figures to share the catching duties with Victor Caratini during the final games of the season.

Ross Detwiler - Earns win Thursday Detwiler (3-1) earned the win over San Francisco on Thursday, pitching a scoreless inning during which he walked one batter.

Impact The lefty reliever wasn't efficient in the outing, throwing only six of 16 pitches for strikes. He was able to escape the inning without any damage on the scoreboard, however, and he earned the win as a result of San Diego pulling out the victory in the bottom of the 10th. Since joining the Padres on Sept. 14, Detwiler has given up one run while notching a 4:4 K:BB across 3.2 innings.
