Iván Herrera - Promoted to Triple-A Herrera was promoted to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Impact Herrera posted a lackluster .231 batting average across 98 games at Double-A Springfield this year, but he recorded hits in each of his last seven appearances and hit .382 with two home runs, two doubles, seven runs and seven RBI during that time. Since the Double-A season has concluded, he'll now appear in game action for a few more weeks in Memphis.

Luken Baker - Transferred to Triple-A Baker was promoted to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Impact Baker returned from the injured list in early September and slashed .286/.333/.518 with three homers, eight runs and seven RBI across 13 games since then. Double-A Springfield has wrapped up its season, so the 24-year-old's promotion will allow him to get a few extra weeks of game action in Memphis prior to the end of the regular season.

Jon Lester - Moved up in pitching schedule Lester will start Monday's series opener against the Brewers in Milwaukee, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Impact St. Louis previously listed Lester as its probable starter for Tuesday's game, but he'll move ahead of Jake Woodford in the Cardinals' pitching schedule as St. Louis begins a seven-game week. According to Jones, the Cardinals' main motivation to have Lester take the hill Monday rather than Tuesday may have been to keep him lined up for a potential start in a one-game wild-card contest on five days' rest. Lester has delivered quality starts in three of his last four outings, turning in a 2.19 ERA and 0.97 WHIP across 24.2 innings during that stretch.

Jake Woodford - Start pushed back Woodford won't start Monday against Milwaukee as previously expected but is listed as Tuesday's starter instead, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Impact The move keeps Jon Lester on schedule and will result in Woodford getting an extra day of rest. Woodford still has a good chance at a two-start week, as he's now lined up to start against the Cubs on Sunday.

Daniel Ponce de Leon - Dumped from 40-man roster The Cardinals designated Ponce de Leon for assignment Monday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Impact Ponce de Leon was cast off the 40-man roster and 28-man active roster to clear a spot for fellow reliever Brandon Waddell, who was called up from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move. Though he had some decent moments as a spot starter for the Cardinals in 2018 and 2019, Ponce de Leon's effectiveness in a swingman role has tailed off considerably over the past two seasons. Dating back to the start of 2020, the 29-year-old righty has covered 66 innings with the Cardinals, posting a 5.59 ERA (5.87 FIP), 1.47 WHIP and a 9.0 K-BB%.

Brandon Waddell - Recalled by Cardinals Waddell was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Impact Waddell returned from the COVID-19 injured list in Memphis last weekend, and he tossed three scoreless innings across three relief appearances since then. The southpaw recorded a 4.15 ERA and 2.08 WHIP in 4.1 innings across four appearances with the Cardinals this year and should be available as a low-leverage reliever.
