Impact Weber, who began the abbreviated season as a member of the rotation, returned to start Tuesday after poor results early on. Boston's rotation is thin, so Weber could get more starts before the end of the season. Weber has a 5.79 ERA (6.75 FIP) over 28 innings.

Impact Weber has bounced between the rotation and the bullpen on multiple occasions just over a month into the season, which speaks to the Red Sox's dearth of appealing starting options more than anything else. Manager Ron Roenicke has been unwilling to commit to Kyle Hart receiving another turn through the rotation, so a strong showing by Weber on Tuesday could be enough for the right-hander to receive additional starts.

Six innings in relief Weber allowed one run on five hits over six innings out of the bullpen in Wednesday's 9-5 loss to the Rays. He struck out four and did not issue a walk.

Impact Weber deserves credit for keeping the Red Sox from getting completely blown out after Zack Godley gave up eight runs in three innings to begin the game. It would not be a surprise to see the two flip-flop roles, with Godley following in relief of Weber next week. The Red Sox face the Yankees on Monday, so it's mostly moot for fantasy purposes as neither player would be a worthwhile gamble in such a tough matchup.

Optioned off roster Weber was optioned to the Red Sox's alternate training site Friday.

Impact Weber has made three starts this season, but none have been good. He's thrown a total of just 10 innings, allowing 11 runs on 15 hits, including five homers. His 3:9 K:BB is perhaps even worse than his 9.90 ERA and 2.40 WHIP. The Red Sox are desperate for help in their beat-up rotation, but it's not clear that Weber can provide that help. Dylan Covey was recalled in a corresponding move.

Short outing against Jays Weber didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 5-3 win over the Blue Jays, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks over three innings. He struck out three.

Impact The Red Sox continue to keep Weber on a short leash. The right-hander threw 64 pitches (39 strikes) before getting the hook, and he has yet to finish the fourth inning in any of his three starts so far. Weber's 9.90 ERA and 2.40 WHIP certainly don't provide the club with much reason to extend him further. Boston's rotation woes give the team little option but to keep trotting the 29-year-old out there, with his next start scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Rays, but Weber is very far from being any kind of fantasy asset.
