Avoids arbitration with Boston Brasier agreed to a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Impact The Red Sox lack a proven closer on the roster, with Matt Barnes positioned as the likely ninth inning option if they do not add anyone more seasoned, so Brasier could earn late-inning work in 2021. The 33-year-old righty had a 3.96 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 30 strikeouts in 25 innings last season.

Impact Starter Chris Mazza went only 2.1 innings, and Brasier was deemed the most effective of five relievers to follow him before Matt Barnes closed it out. Brasier has posted six consecutive scoreless outings spanning 6.2 innings -- in that span, he's allowed four hits, three walks and struck out eight. The 33-year-old has 4.97 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and a 14:6 K:BB across 12.2 innings overall.

Working as opener Monday Manager Ron Roenicke said Brasier would serve as the Red Sox's opening pitcher in Monday's game against the Rays, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
Impact Brasier hasn't covered more than an inning in any of his five appearances out of the bullpen this season, so unless he works efficiently in the first frame, expect him to bow out of the game in the bottom of the second. According to Koch, Roenicke suggested a day earlier that Colten Brewer will likely cover the bulk of the innings once Brasier exits the game.
