Expected to be called up The Rangers are expected to call up Tellez from Triple-A Round Rock, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Impact He would take the roster spot vacated by Jake Burger, who landed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left quad strain. Tellez inked a minor-league contract with the Rangers earlier this month after being released by the Mariners following a stint in Seattle that saw him slash .208/.249/.434 with 11 homers. While Burger and Joc Pederson (hand) are out, Tellez will likely see regular reps against right-handed pitching between first base and designated hitter.

Agrees to MiLB deal with Texas Tellez signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Friday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Impact Tellez clubbed 11 home runs over 62 games with Seattle earlier this season, but he batted just .208 and posted a 26.5 percent strikeout rate. The veteran first baseman will now get a chance to try to make his way back to the majors with the Rangers -- his fourth organization over the past three years. Tellez could have a path to the big-league roster as a left-handed power bat given that Joc Pederson (hand) is likely still weeks away from a return.

Released by Mariners The Mariners released Tellez on Thursday.

Impact Tellez passed through waivers unclaimed after being booted from Seattle's 40-man roster and is now free to latch on with another organization. The 30-year-old slashed .208/.249/.434 with 11 homers for the Mariners and seems likely to have to settle for a minor-league contract.

Cut from Mariners' 40-man roster The Mariners designated Tellez for assignment Friday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Impact The Mariners needed to free up a spot on the active roster for the return of Luke Raley (oblique), and Tellez is the casualty. Tellez has slugged 11 home runs this season, but he's sporting just a .208/.249/.434 batting line and 49:8 K:BB over 62 contests. The 30-year-old is likely to clear waivers and eventually become a free agent.

Swats homer in win Tellez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-2 win over the Guardians.

Impact Tellez is batting .258 (8-for-31) over 10 games in June, with three of his hits in that span going over the fence. The first baseman is up to 11 homers, 27 RBI, 18 runs scored and a .214/.257/.453 slash line through 58 contests. His power has often come in bunches this season, but he's just two long balls shy of matching his total from each of the last two years, so he's doing just fine in a strong-side platoon role.

Reaches 10-homer mark Tellez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 10-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Impact Tellez went back-to-back with Randy Arozarena in the sixth inning to get the Mariners on the board, but it didn't spark a larger rally. Tellez is up to 10 homers this season, but he's hit just two of them over his last 20 contests. The slugger has a .208/.253/.429 slash line with 26 RBI, 17 runs scored and four doubles over 166 plate appearances in a strong-side platoon role at first base.
