May replace injured Ryu in rotation Stripling is the most likely candidate to move into the Toronto rotation if Hyun Jin Ryu (forearm) requires a stint on the injured list, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Impact Ryu lasted just four innings in his start Wednesday against the White Sox before departing with left forearm tightness. Stripling came on in long relief behind him and tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, so he would be lined up to fill in for Ryu if a replacement is needed when the Blue Jays next require a fifth starter Monday in Kansas City. For the time being, a decision hasn't been made on whether Ryu will need to go on the IL, as the Blue Jays will first evaluate the results of the MRI he underwent earlier Thursday. Stripling previously made five starts for Toronto earlier this season, logging a 4.29 ERA and striking out 18 over 21 innings in those outings.

Notches one-out save Stripling retired the lone batter he faced on three pitches en route to notching his first save of the season in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Angels.

Impact With regular closer Jordan Romano allowing a run to score and loading the bases before exiting with two outs, the Blue Jays turned to Stripling to put out the fire. The veteran right-hander was able to get the job done, as he coaxed a groundball from Andrew Velazquez to seal the Jays' one-run win and claim his fourth career save. The one-out cameo marked Stripling's first high-leverage appearance in the bullpen since he exited the rotation earlier this month following Hyun Jin Ryu's return from the injured list.

The right-hander has lasted five innings only once in five starts since moving into the rotation, posting a 4.29 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 18:2 K:BB through 21 frames over that stretch. The results haven't been terrible, but with Hyun Jin Ryu (forearm) tossing four innings for Triple-A Buffalo to begin his rehab assignment Saturday, Stripling could be headed back to the bullpen in the near future.

Stripling tossed 63 pitches (47 strikes) before exiting, and he's now failed to last more than four innings in three of four starts since moving into the rotation, putting a firm ceiling on his fantasy utility. His 3.79 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB through 19 innings on the season are solid ratios, but with Hyun Jin Ryu (forearm) set to begin a rehab assignment this coming weekend, Stripling is likely a couple weeks away from returning to the bullpen.

He got into trouble in the third, allowing three singles to load the bases, but he got out of the jam by registering back-to-back strikeouts of Devers and J.D. Martinez. After coming out of the bullpen during his first two appearances, Stripling has started three consecutive contests and logged his most innings and pitches (84) of the season during Wednesday's outing. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 2 against the Yankees.

Stripling got the hook after 61 pitches (42 strikes), and as yet he hasn't lasted longer than four innings since moving into the rotation, limiting his fantasy appeal. On the season, the right-hander has a 4.50 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and poor 5:4 K:BB through 10 innings.
