Pauses all throwing Manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that Sasaki will be shut down from throwing for a while, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Impact The Dodgers skipper didn't offer any more details as to what "a while" could mean, but it seems the team is going to see how Sasaki responds to a period of rest before it considers administering any sort of medical treatment. The 23-year-old landed on the injured list Tuesday with a right shoulder impingement, and depending on how long his no-throw period lasts, he could be at risk of missing more than the minimum 15 days.

Searching for more velocity The Dodgers are working with Sasaki to address his declined fastball velocity, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Impact Sasaki hit triple digits with his fastball in his March 19 start in Tokyo, but he hasn't hit 99 mph in the United States and his velocity has dropped as low as 92-93 mph in recent starts. "It's not an ideal situation," pitching coach Mark Prior said. "Clearly, the fastball is not gonna carry through the zone at 93 very effectively." Prior said there are things in Sasaki's delivery that need to be fixed, and that's also a potential cause of his 14.3 percent walk rate. Sasaki is confirmed to start Thursday at home against the Athletics.

Impact The start of the game was delayed for about three hours due to a rain delay, so there was some doubt about whether Sasaki would end up pitching at all. The rookie right-hander ended up giving the Dodgers five innings, and that was just enough for him to be rewarded with his first victory as a major-leaguer. Sasaki did give up three runs -- one of which came on an Ozzie Albies homer -- but he continued to show growth, tossing 56 of 98 pitches for strikes and notching 15 first-pitch strikes across 24 batters. He also tied a season low with two walks and equaled a season high with four punchouts. Sasaki was unable to pitch more than four innings in any of his first three starts, but he's completed at least five frames in each of his subsequent four outings. He hasn't exactly been a fantasy stud with a 3.86 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 24:20 K:BB through 30.1 innings, but Sasaki is at least holding his own as a big-league hurler and is increasingly showing why he was such a coveted arm before signing with the Dodgers during the offseason.
