INJURIES

Registers rare save Thursday Garcia earned the save in Thursday's win 5-3 over the Angels, throwing a clean ninth inning and striking out one.
Impact Garcia didn't have to do much to net his first save of the year, inducing two quick groundouts after fanning the leadoff batter on three pitches. Each of his five pitches overall landed for strikes Thursday. Closer Luke Jackson worked each of the past two days, and setup man Chris Martin was summoned to retire the top of the Angels' lineup in the eighth inning. That said, Garcia has five holds as opposed to one save in 2025, so he's unlikely to see very much ninth-inning work going forward despite producing a 2.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB through nine frames of work.

Impressive hold in win Garcia struck out two over a scoreless inning to earn a hold in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Reds.
Impact Garcia entered with none out and a runner on first base in the seventh. After Matt McLain stole second base, the left-hander had to deal with the most dangerous part of the order with a runner in scoring position, and he was up to the challenge. Garcia struck out Elly De La Cruz and Gavin Lux swinging before inducing a harmless groundout (72.8 exit velocity). It was the third hold of the season for Garcia, whose four appearances have come the seventh or eighth innings with Texas ahead by a run or tied.

Headed for setup role? Garcia served up a game-tying solo home run in Monday's exhibition game against the Royals.
Impact After Garcia coughed up the lead in the top of the seventh, the Rangers re-took the advantage in the bottom of the frame. Manager Bruce Bochy then turned to Chris Martin in the eighth inning and Luke Jackson in the ninth to close out a three-run win. After the game, Bochy said it's "pretty close" to how he plans to deploy his late-inning relievers, Michael Bier of Foul Territory TV reports. Bochy did add that the roles are not yet completely defined, so it's possible the order of the three relievers could change.

Closer candidate makes debut Garcia walked one and struck out one over a scoreless inning in Thursday's spring game against San Diego.
Impact Texas manager Bruce Bochy earlier in camp referred to Garcia as one of the main arms in the mix for the closer role, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, but the pitcher was delayed due to nerve irritation in his left forearm. Thursday's outing was his spring debut. His surface numbers from 2024 don't jump out, but Garcia's underlying metrics, per Statcast, indicate he was much better than a 4.22 ERA might indicate. At this point, Garcia and Chris Martin are the leading candidates for save opportunities in the Rangers' rebuilt bullpen.

Spring debut expected Monday Garcia (forearm) is expected to make his Cactus League debut Monday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact Garcia has been dealing with some irritation in his left forearm over the past few weeks, but he was able to get through a live session Thursday without any issues and is now cleared to return to a competitive setting. The 28-year-old turned in a 4.22 ERA and 1.19 WHIP alongside a 75:16 K:BB across 59.2 innings with the Nationals last season and is expected to handle high-leverage situations for Texas in 2025.

Facing hitters Thursday Garcia (forearm) will face hitters Thursday, Shawn McDonald of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact Garcia is behind schedule due to some irritation in his left forearm, but he's coming along nicely in his recovery. If the southpaw gets through Thursday's session with no concerns, he could be ready to appear in a Cactus League game soon. Garcia is expected to be a high-leverage reliever for the Rangers and in the mix to earn save chances.

Completes side session Garcia (forearm) tossed a bullpen session Tuesday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact Garcia is slightly behind the Rangers' healthy relievers in camp while he contends with forearm nerve irritation, but he doesn't appear at much of risk of missing out on a spot in the Opening Day roster, provided he steers clear of setbacks for the remainder of spring training. He likely won't be available for the Rangers' three Cactus League games over the weekend but could be ready to make his spring debut at some point next week.

Bullpen on tap Garcia (forearm) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact The left-hander was shut down from throwing for a few days after reporting to camp with nerve irritation in his left forearm, but he's poised to get back on the mound Tuesday. Assuming Garcia doesn't experience a recurrence of the injury, he should have plenty of time to be fully built up for Opening Day.

Battling minor forearm irritation Garcia will not throw off the mound for a few days due to nerve irritation in his left forearm, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact Garcia will play catch Thursday before the Rangers determine the next steps for the southpaw. President of baseball operations Chris Young said of the injury that it's "nothing we're concerned about," indicating that the club is just playing things safely at the start of camp. Acquired from the Nationals over the offseason in the Nathaniel Lowe trade, Garcia is expected to handle high-leverage innings in the Texas bullpen.

Rangers trade 1B Nathaniel Lowe to Nationals for lefty reliever Robert Garcia

The Texas Rangers have acquired left-handed reliever Robert Garcia from the Washington Nationals in a trade for past Gold Glove and Silver Slugger first baseman Nathaniel Lowe
DECEMBER 22, 2024 • Associated Press
Traded to Rangers The Nationals traded Garcia to the Rangers on Sunday in exchange for Nathaniel Lowe, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Garcia appeared in 72 regular-season games for the Nationals in 2024 and finished with a 4.22 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 13 holds and 75:16 K:BB across 59.2 innings. Garcia gives the Rangers a high-leverage, left-handed option out of the bullpen for the 2025 campaign.

Back from bereavement list The Nationals reinstated Garcia (personal) from the bereavement list Tuesday.
Impact The left-hander spent the past few games on the bereavement list but is back with the Nationals ahead of Tuesday's matchup with the Rockies. Garcia has 11 holds with a 4.80 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 58:16 K:BB across 45 innings this season.

Goes on bereavement list The Nationals Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post Garcia on the Bereavement list Saturday, Spencer reports.
Impact Garcia will now miss a minimum of three games, which would put his return during the Nationals' next home series against the Rockies. Across 56 outings this season, Garcia has recorded 11 holds with a 4.80 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 58:16 K:BB across 45 innings.
AUGUST 17, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Collects second win Garcia (2-3) picked up the win Sunday over the Reds, walking one and striking out one in a scoreless eighth inning.
Impact The southpaw preserved a 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth and then got rewarded when rookie James Wood launched a three-run homer in the bottom of the frame. Garcia has been scored upon only once in his last 14 appearances dating back to June 16, delivering a 2.92 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 21:4 K:BB over 12.1 innings during that stretch while recording three holds and both his wins.
JULY 22, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Taking on high-leverage role Garcia has posted a 4.68 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 47:11 K:BB through 32.2 innings with one win and 11 holds in 41 appearances.
Impact The 28-year-old southpaw's ratios on the season aren't impressive, but they disguise the improvements he's made of late. Garcia has been scored upon only once in his last 12 trips to the mound, delivering a 0.97 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB through 10.1 innings during that stretch. He's the only left-hander in the Nationals' bullpen at the moment, but Garcia is emerging as a reliable high-leverage option for manager Dave Martinez, which should lead to more holds in the second half.

Only lefty in Opening Day bullpen Garcia has made the Nationals' 26-man roster to begin the season, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.
Impact The 27-year-old will be the only left-hander in the team's initial bullpen, potentially putting him in line for regular high-leverage work. Garcia posted solid numbers in 2023 over 25 big-league appearances split between the Marlins and Nats, collecting two wins and four holds with a 3.66 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 33:12 K:BB.
MARCH 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Placed on paternity list The Nationals placed Garcia on the paternity list Friday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Garcia is allowed to miss up to three games as he spends time with his expanding family, which would keep him out for the rest of the year. Tanner Rainey (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day IL in a corresponding move and will take Garcia's place in the bullpen.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Collects first big-league win Garcia (1-2) picked up the win in Sunday's extra-innings victory over the Brewers, allowing one hit and two walks over two scoreless innings. He struck out one.
Impact Working the 10th and 11th frames, Garcia kept the phantom runner from crossing the plate each time and got rewarded with his first MLB win. The rookie left-hander has been a solid addition to the Nationals' bullpen since being picked up from the Marlins on waivers, posting a 4.33 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB through 27 innings.
