Headed back to Triple-A
The Orioles optioned Martin to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
Impact
With Terrin Vavra (personal) returning from the paternity list Monday, Martin's three-day stint with the big club will come to an end. Martin didn't make an appearance off the bench during the Orioles' series with the Red Sox over the weekend.

Returns to big leagues
Martin was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.
Impact
Martin will return to the big leagues after being sent down July 4. The 27-year-old has posted a .167 batting average with two triples, three RBI, four runs and three stolen bases over 30 at-bats in 13 games with the Orioles this year. He will replace Terrin Vavra (personal) on the active roster after Vavra was placed on the paternity list Friday.

Sent down Monday
Martin was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
Impact
Martin joined the Orioles' major-league roster June 11 and saw sporadic playing time during his time in the big leagues. He hit just .167 with two triples, four runs, three RBI and three stolen bases and will head back to the minors after Ramon Urias (oblique) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Monday.

Notches steal as pinch runner
Martin posted a stolen base as a pinch runner in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Mariners.
Impact
Martin ran for Robinson Chirinos after the latter was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning. The steal was Martin's third in the last four games, but he'll have a tough time to adding to his total if he can't hit his way into more playing time. The 27-year-old is slashing only .179/.233/.321 with three steals, three RBI, four runs scored and a pair of triples through 30 plate appearances. Rougned Odor is likely to get most of the starts at second base, while Jorge Mateo occupies an everyday role in Martin's natural position at shortstop.

Back to utility role
Martin is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Impact
Martin went 1-for-13 with an RBI and two stolen bases while starting in four of Baltimore's last five games, but he appears set to move back into a utility role as the Orioles begin a six-game week. Rougned Odor (back) is in the lineup Monday following a five-game absence and should play on an everyday basis at second base, at least against right-handed pitching.

Filling in for Odor again
Martin will start at second base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the White Sox.
Impact
Martin will crack the lineup for the fourth time in the five games in a row that top second baseman Rougned Odor has now missed on account of a sore back. The Orioles are continuing to view Odor as day-to-day and are optimistic that he'll avoid a trip to the 10-day injured list, so Martin's run of steady at-bats could soon come to an end.

Posts pair of steals
Martin went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases in Friday's 4-1 win over the White Sox.
Impact
Martin stole two bases after an RBI single in the second inning, though he wasn't able to come around to score. He snapped an 0-for-12 skid with the single, but he's still not doing much at the plate lately. Martin is slashing .200/.259/.360 with two steals, three RBI, four runs scored and a pair of triples in 27 plate appearances since he was called up June 11.

Two triples in win
Martin went 3-for-5 with two triples, three runs scored and two RBI in a 10-7 win Sunday against Kansas City.
Impact
Martin singled and scored in the second, tripled and scored in the sixth and scored following a two-run triple in the seventh. It was the second three-hit game of his big-league career and first since 2019. The 27-year-old started at shortstop after playing second base in his season debut Saturday. With Ramon Urias (oblique) out and Jorge Mateo slumping, Martin could see some regular playing time if he continues to produce at the plate.

Contract selected by O's
Martin's contract was selected from Triple-A Norfolk and he is starting at second base and hitting ninth Saturday against the Royals, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.
Impact
He is getting the start against lefty Daniel Lynch, but may ride the pine against most righties. Ramon Urias was placed on the injured list with an oblique strain, but Tyler Nevin and Rougned Odor figure to start at third and second base, respectively, against righties. Martin, 27, was hitting .294/.382/.442 with one home run and 17 steals in 41 games at Triple-A.

Outrighted to Triple-A
Martin was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.
Impact
Martin spent most of 2021 injured at Triple-A, but he finished the season in the majors and hit .235/.269/.286 in 37 games. He'll need a strong performance in spring training to have a chance of cracking the Opening Day roster.

Ends year on modest hit streak
Martin went 3-for-10 with a run scored and four strikeouts over the last three games of the season.
Impact
The shortstop saw fairly regular playing time after Ramon Urias (groin) was shut down for the year. It wasn't a very convincing final audition form Martin, who went 13-for-54 (.241) across his last 22 games of the season while splitting time with Pat Valaika at shortstop. For the season, Martin slashed .235/.269/.286 with one home run, eight RBI, nine runs scored and two doubles through 105 plate appearances.
