Impact Lowder put together a bounce-back effort after getting rocked for eight runs over 2.1 innings in Colorado in his last appearance. While Friday's effort wasn't enough to get him back in the win column for the first time since April, it was at least a step in the right direction. He has posted a 5.61 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 65:37 K:BB through 77 innings over 18 appearances (15 starts) this season. Lowder isn't guaranteed another turn through the rotation since Nick Lodolo (finger blister) is eligible to return from the injured list during next week's home series versus the Guardians.

Impact Lowder was briefly shifted to the bullpen in early July, but coming out of the All-Star break, he was back in the rotation after Nick Lodolo (finger) was placed on the 15-day injured list this past Sunday. Unfortunately for Lowder, he got off to a rough start to the second half of the season. He gave up at least two runs in each of the three frames he pitched before being lifted in the third. The eight runs and 11 hits he gave up Saturday both matched career highs set earlier in the year, and Lowder sits at a 5.75 ERA and 1.64 WHIP across 72 innings this season. Assuming he gets one more turn in the rotation, Lowder is lined up to face the Cardinals on the road next weekend.

The right-hander returned for the fifth, but Jake Bauers greeted him by sending the first pitch over the fence for a solo homer. While the eight strikeouts established a new career high, so did the 11 hits allowed. Impact While the right-hander didn't get any help from his offense, Lowder also gave up plenty of loud contact. Impact Lowder returned from a one-month absence against St. Louis in his previous start and looked quite rusty, issuing five walks over three scoreless innings. Lowder also racked up a solid 15 whiffs and fanned six batters, and the only run he allowed came on a first-inning homer by Corbin Carroll. Impact After missing just over three weeks of action with right shoulder discomfort, Lowder showed plenty of rust in his return to the major leagues Sunday following a lone minor-league rehab appearance. The 24-year-old right-hander threw only 34 of his 70 pitches for strikes, also walking a season-worst five hitters, but he at least managed to keep St. Louis off the board. Lowder has issued at least three passes in three consecutive outings en route to posting a shaky 5.01 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 31:23 K:BB over 41.1 innings, so he'll be searching for some control his next time out versus Arizona.
