INJURIES

Catching in series finale McGuire will start at catcher and bat ninth Thursday against the Red Sox.
Impact McGuire and Alejandro Kirk have been working in a timeshare at catcher since the latter was called up from Triple-A Buffalo on July 23 to replace the injured Danny Jansen (hamstring). With a .175/.195/.200 slash line in July, McGuire hasn't performed well enough to justify a larger portion of the catching load.
JULY 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
On bench Wednesday McGuire is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox.
Impact McGuire was scheduled for a day off Tuesday before the contest was postponed, and manager Charlie Montoyo will stick with the same order Wednesday. Danny Jansen will work behind the plate and bat ninth for Toronto.
JULY 21, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Not in Tuesday's lineup McGuire will be on the bench Tuesday against the Red Sox.
Impact McGuire may be moving slightly ahead of Danny Jansen on the Blue Jays' catcher depth chart, as he'd started three of the first four games of the second half. Jansen gets the nod behind the plate Tuesday, catching Thomas Hatch.
JULY 20, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting Sunday afternoon McGuire is not starting Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Rangers.
Impact An .095 hitter off left-handed pitching, McGuire takes a seat as the Blue Jays match up against southpaw Kolby Allard. Danny Jansen will catch and bat ninth, with McGuire likely returning to the lineup Sunday evening.
JULY 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting against lefty Saturday McGuire is not starting Saturday's game against the Rangers.
Impact McGuire went 1-for-4 and scored a run Friday. The 26-year-old is hitting a lowly .095 off left-handed pitching this season, so he understandably gets a day off against southpaw Kolby Allard. Danny Jansen starts behind the dish and bats ninth Saturday.
JULY 17, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Remains on bench Sunday McGuire is not starting Sunday against Tampa Bay.
Impact McGuire is out of the starting for the second straight game despite hitting a double off the bench Saturday. McGuire has just two hits in his last 20 at-bats, so it wouldn't be surprising if Sunday's starting backstop Danny Jansen is given increased time behind the plate following the All-Star break.
JULY 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
On bench Saturday McGuire is not starting Saturday's game against the Rays.
Impact McGuire's bat appears to have cooled off again, as he's gone 1-for-17 with no walks since the start of July. Interestingly, his offensive drop-off has coincided with Danny Jansen's return from the injured list July 3. McGuire was recently named the starting catcher over the light-hitting Jansen, but the latter is starting Saturday and may reclaim the role if he enjoys some success at the plate.
JULY 10, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Not in lineup Wednesday McGuire isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
Impact McGuire has gone 0-for-8 with three strikeouts across his last three appearances, and he'll be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games. Danny Jansen will start at catcher and bat ninth.
JULY 7, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
On bench Sunday McGuire is not starting Sunday's series finale against the Rays.
Impact Even after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout Saturday, McGuire is still hitting .400 in his last 15 games. Danny Jansen returned from the injured list Saturday and is starting at catcher Sunday, but manager Charlie Montoyo has stated that McGuire and his hot bat will remain the primary backstop for now.

JULY 3, 2021 • MLB.COM
Out of Wednesday's lineup McGuire is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Mariners.
Impact McGuire started the past five games and will receive a day off after going 7-for-18 with two walks and five runs. Riley Adams will take over behind the plate for the Blue Jays.
JUNE 30, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Three more hits Thursday McGuire went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's win over the Orioles.
Impact It's the third time in his last five starts McGuire has rapped out at least three hits as he continues to thrive in a starting role while Danny Jansen (hamstring) is sidelined. The hot streak has added 120 points to McGuire's batting average on the season, boosting his slash line to .324/.367/.459 through 80 plate appearances.
JUNE 25, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sits versus lefty McGuire is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
Impact The lefty-hitting McGuire will retreat to the bench with southpaw Trevor Rogers on the hill for Miami. Riley Adams, a right-handed hitter, will serve as Toronto's catcher while batting eighth.
JUNE 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Logs three doubles Sunday McGuire went 4-for-5 with three doubles, two runs, two RBI and a strikeout in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Orioles.
Impact McGuire went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Saturday, but he had little trouble reaching base in his first four-hit performance of the season Sunday. Across his last seven games, the 26-year-old has hit .421 with a home run, five doubles, five runs, four RBI, a walk and six strikeouts.

McGuire hits 3 doubles as Ryu, Blue Jays beat Orioles 7-4

Reese McGuire had three doubles during a four-hit performance, leading Hyun Jin Ryu and the Toronto Blue Jays past the Baltimore Orioles 7-4
JUNE 20, 2021 • Associated Press
Out of Friday's lineup McGuire is not in the lineup Friday against the Orioles.
Impact McGuire started the past two games and will head to the bench after going 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Yankees. Riley Adams will start in his place in Baltimore.
JUNE 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Takes seat Sunday McGuire is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
Impact McGuire will head to the bench after catching in both of the Blue Jays' last two games while going 2-for-6 with a solo home run, a double and three runs. Riley Adams will be behind the plate Sunday, but McGuire looks like Toronto's clear No. 1 backstop for the time being.
JUNE 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Out of Thursday's lineup McGuire is not in the lineup Thursday against the White Sox.
Impact The 26-year-old is 2-for-15 over his past five games and will sit for the second time in the last three contests. Riley Adams will start behind the plate Thursday, and he and McGuire should continue splitting time with Danny Jansen (hamstring) recently placed on the injured list.
JUNE 10, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting Tuesday McGuire is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox.
Impact McGuire had been splitting time behind the plate with Danny Jansen, who landed on the injured list with a hamstring strain Tuesday. The newly-promoted Riley Adams will start Tuesday in his big-league debut. McGuire bats left-handed while Adams hits right-handed, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Adams starting against southpaws like Tuesday's starter Carlos Rodon going forward.
JUNE 8, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting Sunday McGuire is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.
Impact Though Danny Jansen will be behind the dish in the series finale, McGuire may have supplanted him as the team's preferred backstop for the time being. McGuire caught four of the previous six games, and his .542 OPS -- while poor -- is still 38 points better than Jansen's own mark over a larger sample of plate appearances. At the very least, a timeshare between the two catchers could be in place until one of the two dramatically separates himself from the other from a performance standpoint.
JUNE 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Contract selected by Toronto McGuire had his contract selected by the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Impact The 26-year-old was designated for assignment by Toronto after failing to make the Opening Day roster, but he'll join the club with Alejandro Kirk set to miss significant time with a hip injury. Danny Jansen should work as the Blue Jays' top catcher. but McGuire will see occasional opportunities and could carve out a bigger role if Jansen continues to struggle offensively.
MAY 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Designated for assignment McGuire was designated for assignment as expected Thursday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact There was some thought over the offseason that his lack of options would keep him on the roster despite the obvious talent of Alejandro Kirk, but the Jays evidently decided that potentially losing McGuire was an acceptable outcome. The 26-year-old's career .243/.281/.444 slash line in 63 major-league games could be decent enough for another team to claim him off waivers, especially as he has a solid defensive reputation.
APRIL 1, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Likely to lose 40-man spot The Blue Jays are expected to designate McGuire for assignment prior to Opening Day, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.
Impact McGuire's fate was sealed after the Blue Jays informed Alejandro Kirk earlier this week that he would be included on the Opening Day roster as the No. 2 catcher behind Danny Jansen. Since the Blue Jays prefer to use their 26th and final active roster spot on a pitcher rather than a third catcher, McGuire -- who has no minor-league options remaining -- will likely be cast off the 40-man roster and exposed to waivers. The 26-year-old could have some appeal to other organizations who aren't satisfied with their current No. 2 options at catcher heading into Opening Day.
