Leading candidate for CF job Herrera has emerged as the frontrunner to open the season as the Phillies' top center fielder after Adam Haseley was diagnosed Sunday with a left adductor strain that will likely s...
Impact Herrera previously served as the Phillies' primary center fielder from 2015 through 2018, but his career has been sidetracked since he was arrested in May 2019 on a domestic violence charge. Though the charge was eventually dropped, the 29-year-old was suspended for the rest of the 2019 season following his arrest before he was designated for assignment last winter. While he still doesn't possess a spot on the 40-man roster, Herrera has apparently worked his way back into the Phillies' good graces with a strong showing in winter ball followed by quality two-way play thus far in spring training. With Haseley likely to begin the season on the injured list, Herrera's top threats for the center-field job appear to be Scott Kingery and Roman Quinn, both of whom he's outperformed through the first week in camp. With a respectable.276/.333/.423 career slash line to go with a blend of power and speed, Herrera could be a name worth considering in the end game in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues.

Dealing with hamstring issue Marchan hasn't appeared in a game since the end of February due to a hamstring issue, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Impact Marchan jumped straight from High-A to the big leagues last season, appearing in three games. He's likely to open this year in the minors but could have been called upon to open the season as Andrew Knapp's backup if J.T. Realmuto (thumb) isn't ready to go by Opening Day. It's unclear whether or not Marchan's injury is serious enough to threaten his readiness for the start of the season, but if both Realmuto and Marchan aren't ready to go it will likely be non-roster invitee Jeff Mathis who earns the backup job.

Mixed results in spring action Quinn has going 3-for-9 at the plate through his first four spring games but has also struck out five times.
Impact Quinn is one of a number of rather evenly matched options competing for playing time in center field for the Phillies this spring. The competition thinned out a bit when Adam Haseley suffered a groin strain last week, which is expected to keep him out through Opening Day. Quinn is making a decent enough case for himself, but the strikeouts are problematic for a player who really needs to maximize his contact in order to show off his excellent speed. He struck out in 33.6 percent of his plate appearances last season. Mickey Moniak and Odubel Herrera appear to be ahead of Quinn if all that matters is spring performance, with Moniak's two homers helping him stand out from the pack, but there's still time for Quinn to emerge as the favorite.

Where the Yankees' top 'prove it' candidates stand halfway through spring training Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge are just two of a handful of Yankees players with a lot on the line heading into the 2021 season.
