INJURIES

Raps out three hits DeJong went 3-for-4 with an RBI infield single in a loss to the Royals on Tuesday.
Impact After an 0-for-4 day upon his return to action Sunday against the Reds, DeJong is now 4-for-9 with four RBI over the subsequent two games. The shortstop is still looking to get his power production going in earnest, however, as he has just one home run over his first 32 plate appearances after averaging a round tripper every 22.1 trips to the batter's box in 2019.

Drives in three DeJong went 1-for-3 with a double, three RBI, a run scored and a walk in Monday's 9-3 win over the Royals.
Impact After going hitless in his return from the COVID-19 injured list Sunday, DeJong was able to contribute to a Cardinals' win with some nice at-bats Monday. He got the Redbirds on the board with a sacrifice fly in the first and extended the lead to 4-0 with a two-run double in the fifth. The shortstop has six hits in 25 at-bats this season.

Báez homers twice, Cubs top Tigers 9-3 for 11,000th victory

AUGUST 25, 2020 • Associated Press
Hitless in return DeJong, who was activated from the COVID-19 injured list earlier in the day, went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in a win over the Reds on Sunday.
Impact DeJong was logging his first game action since July 29, so it isn't surprising his timing may have been a bit off. The slugging shortstop should be primed for his usual everyday role moving forward.

Lands on COVID-19 injured list DeJong was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday.
Impact DeJong is one of many Cardinals who have been caught up in the team's coronavirus outbreak. He'll be eligible to return to action once he's symptom-free and produces a pair of negative tests. Whether that happens before the Cardinals are allowed to return to the field remains to be seen. The team's next scheduled game is currently set for Friday against the Cubs.

Cards' Yadier Molina says he tested positive for COVID-19

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina says he’s one of the players on the team who tested positive for COVID-19
AUGUST 4, 2020 • Associated Press
Reveals positive test DeJong revealed Tuesday that he is part of the group of Cardinals who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Impact The Cardinals are in the middle of a week-long stretch without any games as they try to determine how far their coronavirus outbreak has spread. DeJong will remain out until he's symptom-free and tests negative for the virus twice. Backup infielder Edmundo Sosa has also tested positive, but the Cardinals can slide Tommy Edman from third base to shortstop and start Matt Carpenter at the hot corner if they return to play before DeJong is ready to go.

Collects two more RBI DeJong went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored during Saturday's 9-1 win over the Pirates.
Impact The 26-year-old clubbed a clutch two-run homer during the eighth inning of Friday's opener, and he brought home two more runs during Saturday's contest. DeJong is 3-for-7 with three runs, four RBI and a walk over the first two games, and he'll look to cap off the series in style Sunday versus Pirates starter Mitch Keller.

Slugs clutch homer DeJong went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's victory over Pittsburgh.
Impact DeJong belted a two-run shot to left field off Richard Rodriguez in the eighth inning for what proved to be important insurance runs in the Cardinals' 5-4 victory. The 26-year-old hit a career-high 30 homers last season and has averaged a healthy 24.6 long balls per season over the first three years of his career.

Pitches to contact in final tune-up Flaherty, who'll start Opening Day against the Rangers, allowed three earned runs while recording 10 outs across 92 pitches in an intrasquad scrimmage Sunday, Anne Rogers of MLB.co...
Impact The right-hander faced plenty of regulars and gave up a first-inning home run to Matt Carpenter, a leadoff triple in the second to Lane Thomas, and a two-run double to Paul DeJong as far as extra-base hits. Flaherty also struggled with control, getting just 52 of his offerings into the strike zone. Despite the uneven performance from his ace, manager Mike Shildt didn't convey concern following the game, instead focusing on the progress the team's hitters seem to be making in getting their timing down ahead of the start of the season.

Gets live BP in Saturday Hudson threw live batting practice to multiple teammates in Saturday's summer camp workout at Busch Stadium, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact The right-hander faced a formidable lineup of Matt Carpenter, Paul Goldschmidt, Dexter Fowler, Paul DeJong, Matt Wieters, Harrison Bader and Kolten Wong, which was a welcome departure from the throwing sessions against a pad that Hudson carried out during the three-month-plus shutdown. The 25-year-old also used his time away from the team to continue working on smoothing out his delivery, a process he'd started during the offseason in an effort to improve his command. "I feel comfortable with what I'm doing," Hudson said. " I was trying to mess with some stuff at the end of last year, and going into spring this year, I was able to show it off a little bit. From here on, I just felt like that off time was me engraving it."

Impact DeJong and Kolten Wong joined the two hurlers in a workout that observed all required social distancing guidelines. The slugging shortstop, who's been working out regularly during the shutdown, was able to field grounders in addition to getting his hacks in the batter's box as he continues to prepare for the possibility of an abbreviated 2020 regular season.

Working out in St. Louis area DeJong, who initially remained in Jupiter, Florida when spring training was suspended, has been working out regularly in the St. Louis area for some time, Derrick Goold of the St....
Impact Goold reports DeJong has regularly been able to incorporate fielding practice into his workouts, and it's likely he's also gotten hitting work done in some form. The 26-year-old swung a scalding hot bat during Grapefruit League play, hitting .464 (13-for-28) across 11 exhibitions before play was paused. His presence in the St. Louis area would seem to indicate DeJong will be among the players present for the small group workouts the Cardinals will be allowed to conduct at Busch Stadium beginning next week, and the slugger is among those eager to see proposed plans for a 2020 season come to fruition. "Baseball players want to play," DeJong said. "We're going to have to go out there. I think the game is bigger than all of this. We have to do everything we can to preserve the game in its most natural state. If this means a temporary season like this year where we have to try out some new measures, I'm all for it because I know I want to play."
