Lands on IL with oblique injury The Mariners placed Wisdom on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a mild oblique injury, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.

Impact It's unclear when Wisdom picked up the injury, though it may have come in his last outing Tuesday against the Padres, when he struck out in his lone plate appearance. The fact that the oblique injury has been classified as minor indicates that Wisdom could be back from the IL when eligible in late April. Rob Refsnyder (personal) was activated from the Mariners' paternity list in a corresponding move.

Contract selected The Mariners selected Wisdom's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Impact The 34-year-old joined Seattle as a non-roster invitee in January after spending the 2025 campaign playing in the Korea Baseball Organization, and he'll get a look in the majors with Rob Refsnyder going on the paternity list. Wisdom has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign at Tacoma with nine homers and a 1.145 OPS in 15 games. He isn't likely to see significant playing time with the Mariners but could see some action against left-handed pitching.

Impact After starting the spring 1-for-10 across four games, Wisdom's gone 4-for-6 with a pair of homers in his last two contests. The 34-year-old Wisdom signed with the Mariners as a non-roster invitee after spending the 2025 season in the KBO, where he posted an .856 OPS with 35 home runs in 119 games. Any chance that Wisdom had to earn a starting role went away with the signing of Brendan Donovan, though the veteran is still looking to make the Opening Day roster as a bench piece.

Signed to NRI deal by Seattle The Mariners signed Wisdom to a minor-league contract Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports.

Impact Wisdom will return to the states after a year in Korea, where he slashed .236/.321/.535 with 35 home runs for the Kia Tigers. The Mariners have an opening at third base, but Wisdom is a long shot to earn significant playing time with the big club. He's a career .209/.291/.459 hitter over parts of seven big-league seasons.

Impact The Cubs moved on from Wisdom earlier this offseason, non-tendering him after he slashed .171/.237/.392 with eight homers, 23 RBI and five stolen bases in 75 games. He had slugged at least 20 home runs in each of the three previous seasons, and he'll now head overseas with hopes of re-establishing himself at the plate.

Impact The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the newly-acquired Eli Morgan. Wisdom, 33, fell off to a lowly .171/.237/.392 batting line this season for the Cubs. Rather than pay him a raise in arbitration, the team is removing him from the roster now. Wisdom slugged 76 homers from 2021-23 and still hits the ball very hard when he makes contact, so he should be able to find work with a club that's willing to deal with his strikeout problems.
