What we learned in MLB this week: Rookies keeping Mets, Giants, Guardians in playoff hunt

Drives in four runs Bailey went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBI and two runs scored in Monday's win over the Pirates.

Impact Bailey knocked a two-run double in the second inning before capping off his day with a two-run shot in the seventh. The rookie catcher has collected seven hits and seven RBI over his last three games. After posting a .777 OPS through 28 minor-league appearances, Bailey is slashing .355/.375/.645 with five extra-base hits in 33 MLB plate appearances.

Impact Bailey will get a breather for the series finale after he started behind the plate in each of the Giants' four games while going 3-for-13 with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Though Blake Sabol will draw the nod at catcher Wednesday, Bailey appears set to receive a look as the Giants' primary backstop until Joey Bart (groin) is ready to return from the injured list.

Contract selected by Giants Bailey had his contract selected by the Giants on Friday.

Impact Bailey will join the major-league roster after he spent 14 games with Triple-A Sacramento, struggling to a .196 average with two homers, four RBI, five runs scored and a stolen base over 51 at-bats. The 23-year-old has yet to make his MLB debut and he'll likely get that shot soon while operating as a reserve option behind Blake Sabol at catcher after Joey Bart (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday.

Promoted to Triple-A Bailey was promoted to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.

Impact After finishing 2022 in High-A and playing just 14 games in Double-A, the 23-year-old backstop is quickly ascending through the Giants' farm system. Bailey slashed .333/.400/.481 over 60 plate appearances with Double-A Richmond. If he's able to keep his hot streak going, there's a chance he cracks the big leagues at some point, though he would have to be added to the 40-man roster before that can happen.
