Added to roster The Yankees selected Reyes' contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Impact Reyes earned his spot on the Yankees' Opening Day roster through an excellent performance in the Grapefruit League, slashing .311/.418/.467 with five RBI, eight runs scored and two stolen bases through 55 plate appearances. He figures to come off the bench most days while in the Bronx, but his ability to play every position in the field improves his chances of occasionally cracking the starting lineup. Jake Cousins (elbow) was placed on the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

Impact Reyes would fill two needs -- a right-handed bench bat and a player capable of playing both third base and left field -- if he makes the Yankees' roster. The 32-year-old has also had an excellent spring, as a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate Monday lifted his slash line to .326/.434/.488. Unlike Peraza (who is slashing just .167/.273/.188 this spring), Reyes isn't currently on the 40-man roster, but Kirschner speculates that New York may end of designating Peraza for assignment, as he's out of minor-league options. If Reyes does get a spot on the Opening Day roster, he'd be unlikely to play every day but could get semi-regular opportunities given his ability to play across both the infield and outfield.

Inks minors deal with Yankees The Yankees signed Reyes to a minor-league contract Monday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Impact The 31-year-old utility player hit .287/.339/.377 as a part-timer in Boston in 2023 but slashed only .183/.234/.217 between the Red Sox and Mets in 2024. Reyes has started a game at every position on the diamond other than catcher and pitcher, so he will bring plenty of versatility to the table as a depth piece for the Yankees.

Handed outright assignment The Mets outrighted Reyes to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Impact The Mets DFA'd Reyes on Monday and the shortstop cleared waivers, opening up the opportunity for him to remain in the Mets organization. The 30-year-old was traded from Boston to New York in May, but he's yet to log an at-bat for the Metropolitans.

Impact Reyes has seen action at all four infield spots as well as right field between his time in the minors and his brief run in the big leagues with the Red Sox this season, so he'll provide the Mets with some versatility off the bench down the stretch. The 30-year-old utility man is unlikely to receive regular at-bats, however.

Impact Reyes has spent his entire Mets tenure in Triple-A since being acquired from the Red Sox in late May. With Syracuse, Reyes is slashing .285/.364/.470 with 10 stolen bases, nine home runs and 34 RBI across 230 plate appearances. He'll provide versatility in the Mets' infield for the tail end of the 2024 season.

Impact Reyes pinch hit for second baseman Enmanuel Valdez against a left-hander in the seventh inning and ripped a sinker down and away to right field for a single. That put a pair of runners on base for Bobby Dalbec, who struck out to end the inning. It marked the second straight game Reyes pinch hit for Valdez against a lefty and went on to finish the game at second. While Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) is sidelined, it looks like a strict platoon at second, where Valdez starts against righties and Reyes against lefties.
