Caissie (lumbar stress reaction) heads to IL, effectively ending rookie season MIAMI -- The Marlins placed rookie outfielder Owen Caissie on the 10-day injured list with a lumbar stress reaction ahead of Sunday’s finale...

SEPTEMBER 13 • MLB.COM

Lands on IL with back injury The Marlins placed Caissie on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a lumbar stress reaction.

Impact Caissie was initially diagnosed with hamstring tightness after being removed from Saturday's game against the Dodgers. However, further tests have revealed a lower-back injury for the 24-year-old outfielder, and he won't be eligible to return until the last week of the regular season. Xavier Edwards (thumb) was reinstated from the 10-day IL in a corresponding move, and Esteury Ruiz figures to see more playing time in the outfield for as long as Caissie is sidelined.

Removed with hamstring tightness Caissie was removed from Saturday's game against the Dodgers with right hamstring tightness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Impact Caissie walked and scored in the bottom of the second inning, but Esteury Ruiz hit for Caissie the following frame. He dealt with a right calf injury earlier in the season. Caissie is slashing .220/.288/.412 with 14 home runs, 58 RBI, 45 runs scored and a 27:126 BB:K across 330 plate appearances in his first season with the Marlins.

It was the 24-year-old outfielder's first home run since Aug. 13 against the Pirates and 14th of the season. Caissie has a .699 OPS with five steals and 57 RBI over 328 plate appearances this year.

In Saturday's lineup Caissie (neck) will start in right field and bat sixth Saturday against the Cubs.

Impact Neck spasms kept Caissie out of the starting lineup for each of Miami's last three games, though he was able to enter Friday's contest off the bench. Now fully healthy, he'll aim to turn things around at the plate after slashing .161/.254/.250 across 63 plate appearances since the beginning of August.

SEPTEMBER 5 • ROTOWIRE

Held out of Friday's lineup Caissie (neck) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.

Impact It's the third straight absence for Caissie as he battles neck spasms, though he may have been on the bench Friday regardless of the injury since he doesn't consistently start against left-handed pitching. Griffin Conine will shift to right field while Agustin Ramirez bats fifth as the designated hitter versus Chicago southpaw Shota Imanaga.

SEPTEMBER 4 • ROTOWIRE

Dealing with neck spasms Caissie hasn't been in the lineup the last two days due to neck spasms, MLB.com reports.

Impact The 24-year-old likely would have sat anyway Wednesday against southpaw Noah Cameron, but Caissie's absence Thursday against right-hander Michael Wacha was a hint that something was amiss. He was apparently available off the bench for the series finale in Kansas City, although he went unused. Caissie will likely sit again Friday against lefty Shota Imanaga, but if he continues to improve Caissie could slot back in as the right fielder Saturday with Clay Holmes on the bump for the Cubs.

SEPTEMBER 4 • ROTOWIRE

Sitting down Thursday Caissie isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Royals.

Impact Caissie has posted just a .492 OPS in 62 plate appearances since returning from the injured list at the start of August, and he'll now move to the bench for the fourth time in five days. Heriberto Hernandez, Jakob Marsee and Griffin Conine will form Miami's outfield trio while Caissie sits.

SEPTEMBER 3 • ROTOWIRE

On bench versus lefty Caissie is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Impact The Marlins will keep the left-handed-hitting Caissie on the bench for the second day in a row while the Nationals send another lefty (Will Dion) to the bump for the series finale. Esteury Ruiz will spell Caissie in right field and will bat eighth.
