Added to MLB roster The Rays selected Madrigal's contract from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.

Impact The 29-year-old joined Tampa Bay on a minor-league deal in late June and will now get a look with the big club. Madrigal posted a .273/.385/.295 slash line in 52 plate appearances for the Angels earlier this season and was hitting well for Durham with an .818 OPS in 47 contests. He'll provide infield depth to help cover the loss of Taylor Walls (hip) who was placed on the injured list Tuesday.

Impact The 29-year-old will report to Triple-A Durham and will bolster the Rays' organizational depth at second base and third base. Before being dropped from the Angels' 40-man roster and electing free agency Thursday, Madrigal appeared in 15 games at the big-league level this season, slashing .273/.385/.295 with zero home runs, one stolen base, two RBI and seven runs across 52 plate appearances.

Impact Madrigal has gone 6-for-15 over six games since he was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake last Wednesday. None of those hits have gone for extra bases, and he was also caught on his lone stolen-base attempt. Madrigal has carved out a part-time role in the infield while Vaughn Grissom is covering first base in the absence of Nolan Schanuel (ankle). Madrigal should be in the lineup against most southpaws, though it doesn't look like he'll be strictly platooned for now, as he's already made two starts versus right-handed pitchers.

Impact Madrigal missed all of 2025 while recovering from a procedure he underwent in February to repair his fractured left shoulder. The 28-year-old is expected to be fully healthy by the time spring training begins, and he'll have a chance to make the Angels' Opening Day roster during camp. However, it's more likely he opens the season at Triple-A Salt Lake.
