Designated for assignment Heath was designated for assignment by the Royals on Wednesday.

Impact Heath was sent to Triple-A Omaha in mid-March and failed to join the major-league club to begin the regular season. He'll now be removed from the 40-man roster after right-hander Josh Staumont was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday. Heath appeared in 15 games for Kansas City in 2020 and hit .154 with three RBI and two stolen bases.

Moves to minors The Royals optioned Heath to Triple-A Omaha on Monday.

Impact Heath made his big-league debut in 2020 as a reserve outfielder for the Royals, but he didn't make enough of an impression in his small sample of work to secure his spot on the active roster heading into the new season. His demotion likely leaves Ryan McBroom, Jarrod Dyson and Bubba Starling as the main candidates for backup outfield roles on the Royals' Opening Day roster.
