Scott Effross - Earns first save as Yankee Effross gave up two hits in a scoreless ninth inning of work to earn the save in a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox on Saturday. He struck out one.
Impact Yankees manager Aaron Boone called on Effross to close the door in the bottom of the ninth in a tight one-run game. He allowed a couple of hits but got the job done by getting Xander Bogaerts to pop up in the infield to end the game with the tying run on third and the winning run at first. It was his second save of the season and his first with New York since coming over from the Cubs at the trade deadline. Yankees closer Clay Holmes has struggled lately, giving up runs in 4 of his last 5 appearances, including 3 blown saves. It is worth monitoring the bullpen usage in New York as it now appears that Effross could be in the mix for saves moving forward if Holmes cannot quickly regain his command. Both Aroldis Chapman and Lou Trivino had pitched earlier in the game and were unavailable in the save situation.

Frankie Montas - Gives up two in no-decision Montas gave up two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings in a 3-2 win over the Red Sox on Saturday. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Montas bounced back from a rough Yankee debut his last time out with five effective innings of work. The damage came in the fourth inning when he hit Jarren Duran with the bases loaded on an errant cutter inside before giving up a sacrifice fly. Montas only threw 78 pitches and remains on a pitch count as he builds up his workload after recently dealing with right shoulder inflammation. Montas will carry a 3.59 ERA into his next start which is tentatively expected to be at home against the Blue Jays.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa - Hits first homer in three-RBI night Kiner-Falefa went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a game-winning RBI bunt single in a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox on Saturday.
Impact Kiner-Falefa led his team to victory over their division rivals with a three-RBI performance that mixed the long ball with some small ball. The 27-year-old shortstop had 379 consecutive plate appearances this season without a home run but tallied his first of the season with a blast over the Green Monster at Fenway Park. He then gave his team the go-ahead run on a perfectly placed bunt up the first base line to score Andrew Benintendi from third in the ninth inning. Kiner-Falefa is hitting .271 with 15 stolen bases on the season. Despite not having much power, his solid defense and contact ability make him everyday player at the bottom of the Yankees lineup.
