INJURIES

Adjusts training approach Haniger worked with two trainers in the offseason in an effort to avoid adding to the long list of injuries in his career, Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Haniger has had some bad luck with freak injuries, but he's also played more than half the games in just two of the last five seasons. The outfielder is expected to play a starting role with the Giants, but that can only happen if he stays healthy. He slashed .246/.308/.429 with 11 home runs, 34 RBI, 31 runs scored and eight doubles in 57 games with the Mariners last year, which saw him limited by back and ankle injuries.

Inks deal with San Francisco Haniger agreed to a three-year, $43.5 million contract with the Giants on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact San Francisco's pursuit of Aaron Judge has understandably garnered most of the attention, but the organization was first able to secure a deal with Haniger to bolster its outfield. Haniger was limited to 57 games for Seattle last season due to a high-ankle sprain, but he provided a solid bat when healthy with a .246/.308/.429 slash line. The 31-year-old was also productive in 2021 with an .803 OPS, 39 home runs and 100 RBI in 157 contests. The contract includes an opt-out after the 2024 campaign, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, so it could end up being a two-year pact if Haniger performs well with the Giants.

No qualifying offer coming Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto said Tuesday the team doesn't plan to extend Haniger a qualifying offer for 2023, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact The 31-year-old will hit free agency for the first time in his career, though Dipoto also expressed interest in bringing the outfielder back at a lower price than the $19.65 million qualifying offer. Haniger suffered a high-ankle sprain in April and was limited to 57 games in 2022. He was decent at the plate when healthy with a .246/.308/.429 slash line, 11 home runs and 34 RBI.
