Edouard Julien - Officially sent back to Triple-A Julien was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday.

Impact It wasn't Julien's performance that punched his ticket back to the minors, as he batted .286/.333/.500 with two homers and four RBI in 36 plate appearances since his recall late last month. Rather, Jorge Polanco (hamstring) is back from the injured list and the Twins felt Julien wasn't going to get enough playing time to warrant being carried on the roster. He'll receive everyday at-bats with St. Paul as he awaits another chance.

Impact Polanco wound up missing just a little over the minimum time on the IL with a strained left hamstring. He is skipping a rehab assignment and will slide right back in as the Twins' starting second baseman. Edouard Julien has been sent down in a corresponding move.

He finished with his fourth multi-hit appearance over his past six games, a span in which he's slashing .455/.520/.773 with two homers, three RBI, nine runs and five steals in five attempts. Castro's versatility is helping him play on a near-everyday basis -- over his past three contests, he's started once each at third base, in left field and in center field.

Impact Solano kicked off the scoring with a two-run single in the third inning and followed with a two-run double in the sixth. Incredibly, the four RBI nearly matched Solano's season total (five) through 44 games coming into the contest. Needless to say, the veteran hasn't been much of a run producer this season, though he's slashing a respectable .275/.356/.350 over 135 plate appearances.

Louie Varland - Shuts down Astros Varland (3-1) earned the win over Houston on Wednesday, tossing seven scoreless innings during which he allowed four hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

Impact Varland suffered his first loss of the campaign against Toronto in his previous start, but he got back in the win column with a sterling effort Wednesday. The right-hander tossed a season-high seven innings and held the Astros scoreless, notching his fifth quality start through seven appearances. None of the four hits Varland allowed went for extra bases, and he continued to demonstrate good control -- he's surrendered one of fewer free passes in each of his past four starts. Varland originally slid into the rotation as a result of an injury to Tyler Mahle (elbow). Mahle won't return to action this season, but it's unclear if Varland will keep his spot in the rotation when Kenta Maeda (triceps) makes it back to the majors, potentially within the next two weeks.
