Yankees enter matchup with the Twins on losing streak

The New York Yankees will try to stop a seven-game slide when they take on the Minnesota Twins
JULY 3 • Associated Press
Does fine in fourth start Paredes (0-1) completed 5.1 innings in a loss against Colorado on Saturday, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out two batters.
Impact Paredes was twice hurt by Hunter Goodman solo homers, but he otherwise gave up just one run. Though the outing can best be described as serviceable given that he yielded three runs over 5.1 frames, he fared much better than Minnesota's bullpen, which surrendered five runs across 3.2 innings. Since moving into the rotation June 10, Paredes has managed a decent 4.00 ERA across 18 frames despite an uninspiring 9:5 K:BB. There's not much to be excited about from a fantasy perspective, but Paredes has probably pitched well enough to hang on to a starting role, at least until Bailey Ober (elbow) is ready to return.

Completes five frames Paredes allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out one over five innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Impact Paredes put forth another serviceable effort, though the three walks matched his season high. This was the first time he's completed five innings this season, and he threw 47 of 75 pitches for strikes. Paredes is at a 4.05 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 11:9 K:BB through 20 innings over five appearances in his first stint in the majors. He is tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Rockies, and he's pretty close to being fully stretched out as a starter.

Logs 4.2 innings in no-decision Paredes did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing two runs on four hits, no walks and a hit batsman over 4.2 innings against the Rangers. He struck out two.
Impact Paredes left with the Twins leading but fell one out shy of qualifying for the win. The right-hander generally did a solid job of keeping the Rangers' offense in check, though Joc Pederson got the better of him with a two-run shot in the second inning. Paredes has now made two starts and two relief appearances, with Monday's start representing his longest outing to date, though each of the four appearances has lasted at least three innings. Across 15 frames, the 25-year-old owns a 4.20 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB with the big-league club this season. If Minnesota opts to keep Paredes in the rotation and continue building up his workload, his next start lines up for Sunday against Arizona.

Josh Bell hits 3-run homer and Byron Buxton goes deep for No. 23 as Twins beat Rangers 4-2

Josh Bell hit a three-run homer in the first inning, Byron Buxton went deep for the 23rd time this season leading off the sixth and the Minnesota Twins beat the Texas Rangers 4-2
JUNE 16 • Associated Press
Getting another start for Twins Paredes will be the Twins' starting pitcher for Monday's game against the Rangers, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Impact Paredes made two long relief appearances for Minnesota before faring well in his abbreviated first major-league start last week in Detroit, striking out four over three innings of one-run ball. The 25-year-old had made seven starts and two relief appearances with Triple-A St. Paul this season, posting a 3.38 ERA and 33:8 K:BB over 34.2 innings. Paredes has not thrown more than 68 pitches in an outing at any level this season, so he's unlikely to pitch deep into Monday's contest.
JUNE 15 • ROTOWIRE
No decision in first start Paredes pitched for three innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks with four strikeouts in the win Wednesday against the Tigers.
Impact Paredes stepped into a starting role for the Twins after two long relief outings to start his big-league career. The 25-year-old pitched well and kept Minnesota in the game for his best outing in the majors yet. The right-hander now has a 1.06 WHIP and 8:6 K:BB across 10.1 innings so far. Parades has not pitched more than five innings in Triple-A St. Paul or on the Twins yet this season, so expect him to work more as a long-reliever/opener in this cal-up to Minnesota.

Buxton hits 20th homer of the season, Twins beat Tigers 6-3

Byron Buxton hit his 20th home run of the season, Royce Lewis also connected and the Minnesota Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 6-3 on Wednesday night
JUNE 11 • Associated Press
Drawing first big-league start Paredes is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Tigers in Detroit, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Impact Before receiving his first big-league call-up May 31, Paredes had mostly been working out of the rotation at Triple-A St. Paul, with whom he produced a 3.38 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 33:8 K:BB in 34.2 innings. Though he's worked out of the bullpen over his first week and a half with the Twins, Paredes has been able to stay stretched out by making a pair of 3.2-inning appearances in long relief. He'll be pitching on five days' rest Wednesday, so Paredes should be capable of giving the Twins plenty of length in his first big-league start before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Contract selected The Twins selected Paredes' contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday.
Impact Paredes has mostly operated as a starter for St. Paul with 10 starts in 13 appearances this year, but he'll likely work as a long reliever while up with the Twins. The 25-year-old has a 4.44 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 54:9 K:BB across 48.2 innings at Triple-A this year.
