Demoted to Triple-A
The Astros optioned Burrows to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Burrows tied a season worst with seven earned runs allowed Monday against the Nationals, giving him a 6.84 ERA and 5.9 K/9 across his past 10 appearances. The right-hander was acquired from the Pirates during the offseason after posting a 3.94 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 97:31 K:BB over 96 innings during 2025, but he'll likely need to get back on track at Sugar Land before getting another look in the Astros' rotation.

Hammered in ninth loss
Burrows (4-9) took the loss Monday, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on nine hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against Washington. He struck out three.
Impact
Burrows was absolutely thrashed by the Washington offense, matching a season high with seven earned runs allowed. The right-hander has struggled immensely to keep the ball in the yard, serving up multiple homers in eight of his 18 outings this season after surrendering two long balls Monday. With a 5.99 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 75:35 K:BB across 94.2 innings, Burrows is projected to make one more start before the All-Star break, tentatively scheduled for Sunday at Texas.

Fares well enough to nab victory
Burrows (4-8) completed five innings against Minnesota on Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters to earn the win.
Impact
Burrows had a rough beginning to his outing, allowing three runs on two hits in the first frame. He rebounded pretty well from there, holding the Twins scoreless over his following three innings before giving up one more run in the fifth. The right-hander logged just three punchouts, continuing a disappointing campaign so far on the strikeout front -- after posting a 9.1 K/9 across 96 innings with Pittsburgh last year, he's at a meager 7.2 K/9 through 90.1 frames this season. Beyond that, Burrows has regressed in his ratios as well, and he now holds a poor 5.58 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 17 appearances (16 starts).

Posts quality start in no-decision
Burrows did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Blue Jays, allowing one run on two hits and one walk with three strikeouts over six innings.
Impact
Burrows allowed a run in the first inning but cruised from there, retiring the final seven batters he faced and logging his first quality start since May 27. The 26-year-old seems to have benefited from having his turn in the rotation skipped last time around after allowing 16 runs (13 earned) through his first three June starts. He'll carry a 5.48 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 69:31 K:BB across 85.1 innings this season into a home matchup with the Twins next week.

Back in rotation Wednesday
Burrows is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact
After having his turn in the rotation skipped over the weekend, Burrows was available out of the bullpen for the Astros' three-game series with the Guardians and tossed a scoreless inning in his lone relief appearance Friday. He'll now move back into a starting role during the upcoming week, but Burrows may need a strong showing in Toronto in order to maintain his spot in the rotation on a more permanent basis. Cristian Javier (shoulder) completed his fourth rehab start Sunday and could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list as soon as next weekend, which would appear to leave Burrows or Kai-Wei Teng most in danger of shifting to the bullpen.

Turn in rotation skipped
The Astros will skip Burrows' next turn in the rotation, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Burrows has been tagged for 16 runs (13 earned) while serving up five home runs over 15 innings covering his last three starts. He's posted a 5.86 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 14 outings this season. It's unclear at this point whether Burrows is simply being skipped for one turn or removed from the rotation, but with Cristian Javier (shoulder) due back soon, Burrows could be headed to the bullpen or Triple-A Sugar Land.

Inefficient in no-decision
Burrows didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Royals after allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out five.
Impact
The five strikeouts were Burrows' best output in that category since he fanned six in a win over the Rangers on May 27, but that was the lone bright spot for the right-hander in this outing. He's given up at least four earned runs in five of his last six starts and owns a 6.95 ERA with a 1.72 WHIP over that stretch. Even more worrying is that his peripherals over that six-game span look troublesome, with a 6.1 K/9, 4.3 BB/9, and 2.7 HR/9. Burrows is scheduled to make his next start at home against the Guardians next weekend.
