Works around traffic for save Castro allowed two hits in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 3-2 win over Atlanta.
Impact Castro put two of the first three batters aboard in the ninth inning, but got a flyout from Ozzie Albies and a groundout from Orlando Arcia to avoid disaster. This was Castro's 11th straight scoreless appearance, a span in which he's picked up five of his six saves this year while adding two holds and two wins. The right-hander continues to get late-inning work as a result of his strong pitching -- he's at a 2.13 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB through 25.1 innings this year, bringing stability to the back end of Arizona's bullpen. Andrew Chafin remains Castro's primary competition for save chances in what's become a two-man committee.

Impact Castro coughed up a single but still closed out the 4-2 win with ease. He's converted five of his six save chances this season, including four straight dating back to May 12. During that span, Castro has fired 8.1 shutout frames, lowering his season ERA to 2.22 with a 22:8 K:BB.

Unavailable for save Castro was not used for a save opportunity in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to Philadelphia.
Impact None of Arizona's most trusted bullpen arms were available due to heavy usage this week. Castro had pitched three of the last four days, as had Andrew Chafin and Kyle Nelson. With a 5-3 lead entering the ninth inning, manager Torey Lovullo tried to get by with Jose Ruiz, but he allowed a two-run home run with two outs that sent the game into an extra frame.

Notches fifth save Castro tossed a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Phillies.
Impact He didn't walk or strike out a batter, but Castro instead generated weak contact as he retired the Phillies' 6-7-8 hitters on only 11 pitches (seven strikes.) The right-hander has picked up three of the Diamondbacks' last four saves as the team tries to shift Andrew Chafin into a fireman role -- the lefty got the first two outs of the eighth inning while facing the likes of Trea Turner and Bryce Harper. On the season, Castro sports a 2.42 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB through 22.1 innings.
MAY 24, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Fans three in fourth save Castro picked up the save Saturday against the Pirates. He allowed one walk while striking out three over one scoreless inning.
Impact Castro set a season-high in strikeouts Saturday, sending Ji Hwan Bae, Connor Joe and Jason Delay back to the dugout after walking Rodolfo Castro to open up the ninth inning. After starting out the season firmly behind Andrew Chafin as the Diamondbacks' primary closer, Castro has received back-to-back save opportunities and converted each of them without allowing a single hit or run. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on the Diamondbacks' use of Chafin and Castro moving forward, in case one of the two begin to pull away with the closing job.
MAY 21, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Converts third save Castro picked up the save Wednesday against the Athletics. He struck out one batter in a clean ninth inning.

Credited with win Castro (2-1) earned the win over San Francisco on Sunday. He struck out two over a scoreless ninth inning.
Impact Castro worked the ninth inning in his last two appearances, picking up a save and a win. After he was lit up for three runs a week ago while pitching on a third consecutive day -- his 16th outing in 34 games -- manager Torey Lovullo tweaked bullpen rotations to keep arms fresh. Castro and Andrew Chafin remain in high-leverage roles, including important ninth-inning situations.
MAY 15, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Closes out win Castro allowed one hit and struck out one over a scoreless two-thirds of an inning to record the save in Friday's 7-5 win over the Giants.
Impact Castro got the call from the bullpen after Andrew Chafin got the first out of the ninth inning. It was Castro's second save of the season. Chafin has been the primary closer, but manager Torey Lovullo had him enter the eighth inning against a string of lefty batters. The sequence hinted at changes Lovullo mused about with Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic. In reaction to a string of adverse relief work, the manager talked about shifting roles and avoiding overusing his most trusted arms, like Chafin.
MAY 13, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Records first save Castro recorded his first save of the season, allowing one walk in a scoreless ninth inning against the Cardinals.
Impact Castro entered the game to protect an 8-7 lead after Andrew Chafin gave up three runs at the beginning of the ninth inning. The 28-year-old pitcher retired Nolan Arenado but would immediately give up a walk to Tyler O'Neill; however, Castro quickly rallied by retiring Dylan Carlson to end the game and record his first save of the year. With a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over eight innings, Castro is expected to continue handling high-leverage opportunities late in games.

Records first hold Castro walked one and struck out one over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn his first hold in Friday's 6-3 comeback win over the Dodgers.
Impact Castro gave the Diamondbacks four outs before giving way to Andrew Chafin for the save. The right-hander with the high-90s fastball has yet to allow a run or hit in three outings while walking two and fanning five over 3.2 innings. As manager Torey Lovullo navigates end-game roles, he'll continue to mix and match relievers. Both Castro and Chafin have earned high-leverage opportunities late in games.
APRIL 8, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Earning greater role Castro has allowed one hit and one walk while striking out seven over six scoreless Cactus League innings.
Impact It's no surprise that Castro will make the roster, but his power arm could be utilized in high-leverage spots for a bullpen whose late-inning patterns are still taking shape. He's in the mix for save opportunities with Scott McGough and Kevin Ginkel as Opening Day looms. All three have posted strong springs.
