INJURIES

Cleared for Thursday start Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Pineda (wrist) will be ready to start Thursday's series finale against the Rangers, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact Pineda's sore right wrist apparently responded well to his between-starts throwing session Tuesday, so he'll be able to make his normal turn in the rotation on five days' rest Thursday. The 32-year-old righty has gotten off to an excellent start to the season, posting a 2.30 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 27:6 K:BB in 27.1 innings through his first five starts.

Impact It sounds like his right wrist swelled up after the outing, which affected his routine in between starts. Manager Rocco Baldelli said the "most likely scenario" is that Pineda starts Thursday, but the team will continue to see how his wrist responds Tuesday. Lewis Thorpe will make a spot start Wednesday.

Allows one run against Royals Pineda (2-1) allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out five over five innings to earn the win over the Royals on Friday.
Impact Pineda faced the minimum number of batters through the first three innings and made his only major mistake in the fourth when he served up a solo home run to Carlos Santana for the Royals' only run of the night. The 32-year-old has now allowed two or fewer runs in four of his five starts and lowered his ERA to a 2.30 over 27.1 innings. He's in line for a favorable matchup against the Rangers next week.

Wastes strong matchup Pineda (1-1) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out five across 4.1 innings to take the loss Saturday against the Pirates.
Impact Pineda had a shaky second inning, which led to three of his runs. He appeared to settle in from there, logging consecutive clean innings. However, he served up back-to-back homers to lead off the fifth inning, sinking his start against an exploitable lineup. Even with the rocky outing, Pineda has maintained a 2.42 ERA with a 22:4 K:BB across four starts this season. He'll look to get back on track for his next turn through the rotation, currently scheduled Friday against Kansas City.

Seven shutout frames in no-decision Pineda blanked the Red Sox across seven innings on Thursday, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out six. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact After giving up a leadoff single to Enrique Hernandez, Pineda retired 14 batters in a row before issuing a walk to Hunter Renfroe in the fifth frame. It's worth noting that Boston decided to test their weather alarm before and during Renfroe's at bat. Pineda not only pitched through it, but bounced back from the walk by sending Franchy Cordero down on strikes to end the inning. The right-hander then faced the minimum over the next two frames and left the game poised for the win with a three-run lead. Unfortunately, the bullpen robbed him of the opportunity after tying up the score in the eighth. Pineda has now allowed three or fewer earned runs in his last 11 starts. On the season, the 32-year-old leads the Twins with a shiny 1.00 ERA and 0.72 WHIP across three games. He's scheduled to take the mound again Wednesday at Oakland.

Takes no-decision in quality start Pineda allowed two runs on four hits and zero walks over six innings during Saturday's extra-inning loss to Seattle. He had six strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision.
Impact The 32-year-old pitched well during his second outing of the season, with the Mariners only crossing the plate via a pair of solo homers. Pineda has given up three runs (two earned) on eight hits with a 11:2 K:BB over 11 innings through his first two starts of 2021, and he's poised to pitch against the Red Sox on Thursday.
