Tough loss in quality start Wednesday
King (8-9) took the loss Wednesday as the Padres fell 4-2 to the Mets, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out four.
Impact
A two-run home run by Carson Benge in the fourth inning was the only real blemish on King's line for the afternoon, but the right-hander left the mound with the Friars down 2-1 and they were never able to draw level. King has been on a roll since the beginning of July, producing quality starts in six of his nine outings with a 3.08 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 45:19 K:BB over 52.2 innings. He'll look for more run support in his next start, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Pirates.

Wins despite early trouble
King (8-8) allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out four across six innings in Friday's 7-5 win over Cleveland.
Impact
King fell into an early hole, allowing three runs across the first three innings, including solo homers to Nathaniel Lowe and Brayan Rocchio. San Diego's offense eventually erased the deficit, and King settled down enough to complete six frames and earn his second consecutive win. The right-hander allowed only one additional run over his final three innings, lowering the damage despite giving up a season-high eight hits. King lowered his ERA to 3.41 with this outing and is scheduled to make his next start on the road against the Mets.

Stifles Houston in victory
King (7-8) earned the win over the Astros on Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out six batters over six innings.
Impact
King surrendered a second-inning Taylor Trammell solo homer, but that was the only time Houston scored against him. The right-hander finished with his 11th quality start of the season and snapped a four-outing winless stretch. King also had his swing-and-miss stuff working, racking up 15 whiffs on 93 pitches. Though he holds a 7-8 record, King has provided much-needed consistency to a San Diego rotation that has been beset by injuries and poor performances -- he leads the team's starters in just about every major category, including ERA (3.37), WHIP (1.17), strikeouts (114) and innings pitched (136.1).

Charged with eighth loss
King (6-8) took the loss Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks over five-plus innings against Arizona. He struck out five.
Impact
The right-hander was done in by a three-run homer surrendered to Tim Tawa in the fourth inning. King threw 66 of 104 pitches for strikes, issuing four walks for the sixth time this season. Through 130.1 innings (23 starts), the 31-year-old owns a 3.45 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 114:54 K:BB. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Saturday against Houston.

Start moved from Sunday to Monday
King is no longer scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Giants and will instead make his next turn through the rotation Monday in Arizona.
Impact
San Diego will have Kyle Hart serve as their opening pitcher in a bullpen game during Sunday's series finale. The Padres didn't provide an explanation behind the late change, but the decision to scratch King adds fuel to the notion that he could be moved ahead of Monday's trade deadline. If King ends up staying put, he'll end up taking the hill later Monday following the deadline and would tentatively line up for a two-start week, with his second outing then coming next weekend at home versus the Astros.

Yields four runs in no-decision
King gave up four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Tuesday.
Impact
Three of the four runs on his line came on a pair of home runs, making this the first time King has allowed multiple homers in a game since June 10 versus the Reds. He ended up allowing just nine runs over 29 innings with a 26:11 K:BB across his five starts in July. The right-hander has a 3.38 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 109:50 K:BB through 125.1 innings over 22 starts this season. King is tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Giants, though he is a trade candidate.

Settles in after shaky first inning
King took a no-decision Wednesday against Atlanta, allowing one run on five hits and four walks in six innings. He struck out seven.
Impact
The Atlanta bats brought a run across during the first inning, but King effectively shut them down the rest of the way. The seven punchouts were the right-hander's most since his May 18 start versus the Dodgers, and he's now fired at least five innings while yielding two runs or fewer in five of his past six outings. King will next carry a strong 3.24 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 103:49 K:BB over 119.1 innings into what shapes up as a soft home draw against the last-place Rockies.

Picks up no-decision Friday
King allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings in a no-decision Friday against the Royals.
Impact
King pitched five efficient innings, allowing just one mistake after giving up a solo home run to Lane Thomas in the bottom of the second. The 31-year-old exited the game with his team leading 2-1 before Xander Bogaerts committed a throwing error to allow the game-tying run to cross the plate in the bottom of the sixth, giving King a no-decision. On the season, King now has a 3.34 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 96:45 K:BB in 113.1 innings.

Steady in sixth win
King (6-7) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four over six innings to earn the win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Impact
King picked up his third quality start and second win in his last four outings. This was the eighth time in 19 starts that he's been able to limit an opponent to one run or less, and those performances account for five of his six wins on the year. He has a 3.41 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 92:43 K:BB through 108.1 innings.

Takes no-decision Friday
King allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out five over six-plus innings in a no-decision Friday versus the Dodgers.
Impact
King cruised through six frames, but he put two batters on base in the seventh. Adrian Morejon then served up a grand slam to Teoscar Hernandez, costing King a chance at the win despite the quality start. All things considered, he's fared decently over his last four starts -- he's allowed nine runs over 21.2 innings in those games, all coming against teams over .500 on the year. King has a 3.52 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 88:41 K:BB through 102.1 innings over 18 starts this season. The right-hander's next start is projected to be at home versus the Diamondbacks.
