Impact After giving up two home runs in two innings Wednesday, Grove will end up as the odd man out of a roster spot to make room for Jesse Scholtens, who was recalled from Durham in a corresponding move. Grove has now given up four earned runs in seven innings with the Rays but could still return to the big leagues down the stretch to provide a fresh bullpen arm.

Impact The right-hander was sent to Durham on Tuesday but will quickly return to the majors since Griffin Jax (elbow) was placed on the injured list. Grove has made two appearances for Tampa Bay this season and has given up two earned runs with a 4:0 K:BB over five innings.

The right-hander has been up with the Rays on two other occasions this season but made his lone appearance with the big club June 27, when he struck out four over three scoreless innings in a win over the Diamondbacks.

Nearly flawless in season debut Grove (1-0) earned the win Saturday against the Diamondbacks, allowing no runs on one hit and no walks in three innings of relief. He struck out four.

Impact Making his season debut for the Rays, Grove was almost perfect out of the bullpen as a bulk reliever Saturday. The 29-year-old right-hander had a delayed start to the year due to March 2025 surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, but he looks primed to serve as Tampa Bay's primary long reliever while Steven Matz (ankle) and Jesse Scholtens (wrist) are on the injured list. Grove flooded the zone for 26 strikes (34 pitches), but he certainly doesn't appear to be fully stretched out yet.

Impact Grove finished his rehab from shoulder surgery and was optioned to Durham recently following the conclusion of his rehab assignment. Now, he's back in the big leagues as a replacement for the injured Steven Matz (ankle). Assuming Grove appears in a game, it will be his first at the big-league level since 2024.
