GAME LOG

Dylan Floro - Struggles in third loss Floro (3-3) took the loss in Tuesday's 9-4 loss to San Diego. He allowed five runs (three earned) on two hits and two walks without recording an out.
Impact It was a nightmarish outing for Floro, who was called upon to keep the game tied 4-4 in the ninth. The veteran right-hander faced five batters, allowing all to reach safely, eventually departing with an 8-4 deficit. Floro has served as Miami's primary closer with A.J. Puk sidelined, going 4-for-5 in save chances. However, he's struggled to a 23.14 ERA in his last four outings. With Puk beginning a rehab assignment, Floro's fantasy value appears to be waning. His ERA is up to 4.50 with a 1.33 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB through 24 innings this season.

Yuli Gurriel - Swipes third bag Gurriel went 0-for-3 with two walks and a steal in Tuesday's loss to the Padres.
Impact Gurriel is now 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts this season after swiping eight bags with Houston last year. While the 39-year-old shouldn't be counted on as a steady source of speed, he's been productive at the plate, going 13-for-30 over his last eight games, boosting his slash line to .289/.353/.430 with three home runs and 12 RBI through 136 plate appearances this season. Gurriel has gotten the majority of starts at first base recently, with Garrett Cooper serving as DH, though Jesus Sanchez's return from the IL could cut into his playing time.

Impact De La Cruz gave the Marlins a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning with a two-run homer off Ryan Weathers, his fourth of the year. The 26-year-old outfielder is on an impressive run -- he's now batting .379 (22-for-58) with four home runs in his last 15 games. On the season, De La Cruz is slashing .301/.351/.468 with seven homers, 25 runs scored, 23 RBI and three stolen bases across 202 plate appearances.

Sandy Alcantara - Walks five in no-decision Alcantara did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing four runs on five hits and five walks over 6.1 innings against the Padres. He struck out three.
Impact Alcantara's command eluded him again Tuesday, as he's now issued 13 walks over his last four starts (25.2 innings). It's been a tough year overall for Alcantara, following up on his Cy Young-winning campaign. He's 2-5 with a 4.93 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 60:25 K:BB through 11 starts (69.1 innings) this season. Alcantara currently lines up for a friendlier matchup with the A's on Sunday, where he'll look to get his season on track.

Anthony Bender - Throwing out to 120 feet Bender (elbow) increased his flat-ground throwing Tuesday to 120 feet, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Bender needed Tommy John surgery in late August of last year and probably won't be ready to return to a major-league mound until the beginning of the 2024 season, but all of the reports from the early stages of his recovery have been encouraging.
MAY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Johnny Cueto - Throws bullpen session Cueto (biceps) threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Cueto has resumed mound workouts in his ongoing recovery from a right biceps injury that sent him to the injured list in early May. He might be an option again for the Marlins' starting rotation before the end of June.
MAY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Max Meyer - Throwing out to 135 feet Meyer (elbow) has extended his flat-ground throwing to 135 feet, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Meyer underwent Tommy John surgery last August and might not appear in any sort of live games in 2023, but he continues to take encouraging steps. The 24-year-old right-hander still ranks as a top-100 prospect through the recovery process and might be a candidate for the Opening Day rotation in Miami next season.
MAY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Trevor Rogers - Set for rehab assignment Rogers (biceps) is beginning a rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Jupiter, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact The plan calls for Rogers to go around four innings in what will be his first live appearance since he was placed on the injured list April 21 with a left biceps strain. The 25-year-old is likely to require multiple minor-league outings, but he could be an option again for the Marlins' rotation by mid-June.
MAY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sixto Sánchez - To resume mound work Sanchez (shoulder) is set to throw a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Sanchez is back to throwing off a mound after getting shut down for a bit in early May due to renewed right shoulder soreness. He's been able to do several flat-ground sessions without issue over the last few weeks. There remains no timetable for the 24-year-old's return to the major-league level, but he could start appearing in minor-league games sometime in late June or early July if he is able to avoid further setbacks.
MAY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
A.J. Puk - Heads out on rehab assignment Puk (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Pensacola, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Puk could be back with a majority share of the Marlins' closer role by the weekend, assuming all goes well on the farm. He had posted a sharp 3.07 ERA and 19:3 K:BB through 14.2 innings this season with Miami before landing on the injured list May 14 due to left elbow nerve irritation.
MAY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Xavier Edwards - Optioned to Triple-A Edwards was optioned Tuesday to Triple-A Jacksonville, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Jesus Sanchez (hamstring) has been activated from the injured list in a corresponding roster move ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Padres. Edwards, 23, is 8-for-21 (.381) this year in the majors and should eventually get another opportunity with the Marlins.
MAY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Jesús Sánchez - Activated from injured list Sanchez (hamstring) was activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Sanchez is not in the Marlins' starting lineup Tuesday night against the Padres, but he's recovered from the hamstring strain he suffered May 10 and will look to pick up where he left off prior to the IL stint. The 25-year-old has registered a .914 OPS in 77 plate appearances this season when healthy.
MAY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Bryan De La Cruz - Jumps to leadoff spot De La Cruz will bat leadoff Tuesday against the Padres.
Impact It's his first start at leadoff this year. De La Cruz struggled in the final two games of the Marlins' three-game weekend series against the Angels, but he boasts a .330/.384/.517 batting line through 99 total plate appearances in May.
MAY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Joey Wendle - Out of lineup versus lefty Wendle is out of the lineup Tuesday versus the Padres.
Impact Jon Berti will play shortstop and bat seventh with left-hander Ryan Weathers on the mound for San Diego. The left-handed-hitting Wendle carries a weak .173/.259/.288 overall season slash line and has drawn only three plate appearances versus southpaws.
MAY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Nic Enright - Designated for assignment Enright was activated from the 60-day injured list anddesignated for assignment by the Marlins on Monday.
Impact Enright had been on the 60-day IL after being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma last December and was pitching well on his rehab assignment, but the Marlins have elected to put him on waivers. There would seem to be a decent chance he'll be claimed by another organization.
