Justin Verlander to Throw Bullpen, Max Scherzer on Track for Wednesday Justin Verlander is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Tuesday. Max Scherzer is on track to make his start on Wednesday.
APRIL 18, 2023 • NEWSOBSERVER.COM
Good to go for Wednesday Scherzer (side/back) is good to go for Wednesday's start against the Dodgers after throwing off the mound Monday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Impact Scherzer had his scheduled start Sunday against the Athletics moved to Wednesday because of soreness in his side/back. The right-hander will face off against his former club in the Dodgers and take a 4.41 ERA over 16.1 innings of work into that outing.
APRIL 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Confirmed to start Wednesday Scherzer (side/back) is listed as the Mets' probable starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact Just as manager Buck Showalter suggested over the weekend would be the case, Scherzer doesn't look like he'll need a stint on the injured list after he was pushed off his scheduled start Sunday against the Athletics pushed back while he contended with a sore side/back. Provided Scherzer doesn't experience any renewed pain by the time Wednesday arrives, he shouldn't face any limitations in his upcoming start.

Impact Scherzer was scheduled to pitch Sunday, but because of the soreness he'll get some extra rest with Jose Butto now scheduled to start for the Mets against the Athletics. The right-hander will now square off against the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Wednesday. This sounds precautionary, but fantasy managers will want to keep a close eye on the situation.

Back in win column Scherzer (2-1) allowed one hit and three walks over five shutout innings Monday, striking out six and picking up a win over San Diego.
Impact After giving up eight runs in his first two starts, Scherzer finally looked like himself Monday. He didn't face much trouble through five scoreless frames but he still needed 97 pitches and walked multiple batters for the third straight outing. Scherzer forced 12 swinging strikes and improved his K:BB to 14:7. He walked seven batters in his first three starts to begin the 2022 campaign before posting a 150:17 K:BB in his next 20 outings. Scherzer is currently lined up for a nice matchup in Oakland this weekend.

Tagged for five runs in loss Scherzer (1-1) was charged with the loss Tuesday at Milwaukee after giving up five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks across 5.1 innings.
Impact The right-hander was hit hard all night by the Brewers, which culminated in Rowdy Tellez, Brian Anderson and Garrett Mitchell crushing three consecutive home runs during the sixth inning. It was a rough outing for Scherzer, made worse by the fact New York has been outscored 19-0 by Milwaukee through the first two games of the series. Things won't get any easier next time out for the 38-year-old, as he lines up to face the Padres on Monday.
