Shaky in no-decision Monday Fried took a no-decision Monday against the Rangers, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out seven.

Impact After a phenomenal start to his campaign, Fried has begun to struggle quite a bit of late. The All-Star left-hander has walked multiple batters in four straight starts, and he's surrendered at least three runs in five of his last six outings. With a shaky 5.81 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 28:14 K:BB across his last 31 frames during that latter period, Fried will be looking to get back on track at home this weekend in a tough matchup versus the Astros.

Impact Fried allowed three runs through the first three frames, highlighted by a Jonny DeLuca two-run triple and a solo shot from Jonathan Aranda. Fried went on to retire 14 straight after allowing the home run and exited in the seventh after a two-out RBI double from Taylor Walls. Fried has issued multiple walks in four of his last five starts but his nine strikeouts Tuesday was tied for his second-best mark this season. Fried is sixth in the American League with a 2.62 ERA and 1.03 WHIP and lines up to take the mound next week against the Rangers.

Impact There's no indication that the blister that caused Fried to exit after three frames in his previous outing was still bothering him Wednesday, but the veteran hurler nonetheless had one of his worst performances of the season. The six runs allowed by the left-hander tied a season-worst mark, though only four of those were earned. Fried also failed to miss many bats, notching just six whiffs and three punchouts. He's now lost consecutive starts for the first time this season and will aim to bounce back the next time he takes the mound, which is tentatively scheduled to be early next week against Tampa Bay.

Impact Fried developed a blister on his left index finger during his final start before the All-Star break back on July 12 versus the Cubs, but the extended break has seemingly allowed him to move past the issue. After he resumed playing catch shortly after suffering the finger issue, Fried cleared up any lingering concern about his health by tossing a bullpen session in Atlanta over the weekend. The veteran southpaw heads into his start Wednesday having logged an 11-3 record with a 2.43 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 122 innings over his first 20 outings of the season.
