The initial expectation was that the 24-year-old could return when first eligible July 9, but he's now slated to miss at least a bit more time than that. Sidelined by sprained wrist The Cubs placed Shaw on the 10-day injured list Monday with a sprained left wrist, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Shaw injured his wrist during Sunday's game against the Brewers. The sprain is considered mild, but with the All-Star break looming, there's a good chance Shaw will be held out at least until the beginning of the second half. He recently took over as the Cubs' primary right fielder, but now that Shaw is sidelined, Michael Conforto is getting a start in right field Monday versus the Padres.

Dealing with wrist soreness Shaw was removed from Sunday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Brewers in the ninth inning as a result of wrist soreness, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Impact Shaw opened the game on the bench as the Cubs opted to go with Michael Conforto in right field Sunday. Shaw entered the contest as a pinch hitter in place Conforto in the top of the seventh frame, drawing a walk in his only at-bat of the day. When Shaw's next turn at the plate arrived in the ninth inning, Justin Dean batted in his place. The 24-year-old can be considered day-to-day with the wrist discomfort ahead of Monday's series opener against the Padres at home.
