Optioned to Triple-A The Astros optioned Gage to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Impact Gage was called up Sunday to take the place of Ryne Stanek as he went on the bereavement list, and now Gage will head back down as Stanek returns to the team. Gage made two appearances during his brief stint, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings while striking out three batters and walking one. His solid MLB history isn't consistent with his performance in the minors this season (6.59 ERA, 2.05 WHIP), but it's still possible Gage returns to Houston's bullpen later this season.

Impact Gage takes the place of Ryne Stanek on the 26-man active roster after Stanek was placed on the bereavement list by the Astros on Saturday. In four relief innings with Houston earlier in the year, Gage allowed a pair of earned runs, and he's likely a mid-to-late inning option for the club while he's on the roster.

Impact With Luis Garcia (elbow) landing on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Gage will be brought up to the majors to fill Garcia's roster spot. Gage had quite a bit of success in the majors last season with Toronto, posting a 1.38 ERA and 0.92 WHIP across 13 innings. However, he's struggled early on in Triple-A this season to the tune of a 5.00 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in nine frames.
