Recalled, starting Tuesday Vierling was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley prior to Tuesday's game against the Nationals. He is slated to start at first base, per Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Impact Vierling went 3-for-7 with a stolen base and a run scored during his first two stints with the Phillies in June and July. He'll man first base Tuesday with Rhys Hoskins (abdomen), J.T. Realmuto (ankle) and Luke Williams (COVID-19) all out. Vierling will also be an option to play the outfield should he remain with the big club for an extended period.

Heads back to minors Vierling was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Impact Vierling was up as the extra man for Friday's doubleheader against the Marlins. He struck out in his lone at-bat and will head back to Triple-A for now, but he should remain one of the Phillies' top options next time they need another outfielder.

Up as extra man Vierling was called up by the Phillies to serve as the 27th man for Friday's doubleheader against the Marlins.

Impact Vierling will likely serve as a bench bat for the day before heading back to the minors. He made his big-league debut in mid-June and went 3-for-6 in a brief cameo. The 24-year-old was excellent in 24 games for Double-A Reading this season, posting a 1.065 OPS, but he owns a .581 OPS in 18 games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Optioned to Triple-A Vierling was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Impact Vierling joined the major-league roster for the first time after his contract was selected by the Phillies on Saturday, and he went 3-for-6 with a run, a stolen base and two strikeouts while serving mainly in a depth role. He'll now head back to the minors as part of a transaction to make room for right-hander Enyel De Los Santos on the 26-man roster.

Contract selected by Phillies Vierling's contract was selected by the Phillies on Saturday.

Impact The 24-year-old outfielder struggled to a .232/.297/.329 slash line in a full season at High-A Clearwater in 2019 and didn't get the chance to turn things around last year due to the canceled minor-league season, so he's understandably not high on prospect lists. He's looked far better in 27 games at the two highest levels of the minors this season, however, hitting .354/.426/.616 with six homers and five steals while making the majority of his starts in center field. Expectations should be modest given how small that sample is and given his lack of prospect pedigree, but it's possible he's turning into at least a useful part-time player. That looks to be the role available for him for now, as it's Matt Joyce (back) who will land on the injured list in a corresponding move.
