Mariners place Brash on 15-day IL with lat inflammation SEATTLE -- The Mariners spent Friday afternoon contemplating whether Matt Brash needed to be placed on the 15-day injured list after an MRI...
MAY 2 • MLB.COM
Lands on 15-day IL The Mariners placed Brash on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Thursday, due to right lat inflammation.
Impact Brash sustained the injury during Wednesday's outing against the Twins, when he tweaked his lat after tossing two pitches in the eighth inning. While the MRI didn't reveal any structural damage, the injury is significant enough for him to warrant a stint on the IL. A minimum stay on the IL would mean a mid-May return for Brash, but some lat injuries take longer to heal from, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the right-hander shelved until the end of the month or early June. Left-hander Josh Simpson was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.

Diagnosed with lat inflammation Mariners manager Justin Hollander told reporters Friday that an MRI on Brash revealed "trace inflammation" in his right lat and no signs of structural damage, Daniel Kramer of MLB....
Impact Brash sustained the injury during Wednesday's game against the Twins after tossing just two pitches in the eighth inning. The fact there was no structural damage is good news for the 27-year-old right-hander, but the inflammation in his lat could result in a stint on the 15-day IL. It would be a big blow to the Mariners' bullpen, as Brash has yet to give up an earned run across 11.1 innings this season, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out eight and accumulating four holds.

Matt Brash's awkward moment with Dan Wilson reveals a deeper Mariners problem Matt Brash didn't want to come out of Wednesday's game. He had to anyway, and it's damning that he was out there in the first place.

Dealing with side discomfort Brash was taken out of Wednesday's game against the Twins due to side discomfort, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Brash threw just two pitches in the eighth inning during his appearances Wednesday before leaving the game alongside a trainer. It doesn't seem like the 27-year-old righty is dealing with anything serious, and he'll have a day off Thursday to recover before the Mariners begin their next series against the Royals on Friday.

Exits appearance with injury Brash was removed from an appearance Wednesday against the Twins in the eighth inning with an undisclosed injury, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Impact Brash threw only two pitches, the second of which that was a changeup that was spiked into the dirt. After a conversation with the Mariners trainer and manager Dan Wilson, Brash walked off the field. Seattle should have more on his status soon. Brash entered action Wednesday having allowed only one unearned run with an 8:2 K:BB over 11.1 innings this season.

Mariners outlast Cardinals 11-9 in game that featured 8 home runs

Julio Rodríguez, Will Wilson and Cole Young each homered, and Leo Rivas hit a two-run single in the ninth to help the Seattle Mariners beat the St. Louis Cardinals 11-9

Extends scoreless run Brash delivered a perfect seventh inning in Friday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals.
Impact Brash has now held opponents without an earned run through his first 11 appearances (9.1 innings) this season, allowing just three hits and two walks. While his strikeout numbers are down (he has just five punchouts and one in his last 5.1 frames), Brash has proven to be a trusted late-inning option ahead of Andres Munoz in the Mariners' pen. Brash's four holds are tied with Gabe Speier for the team lead.
APRIL 25 • ROTOWIRE
Blows save opportunity Brash blew the save Sunday against the Angels, allowing one unearned run while striking out one in one inning.
Impact After entering the 10th inning with a one run lead, Brash was charged with a blown save in his first opportunity of the season, as the Angels capitalized on the extra-innings placed runner. Following a successful bunt that moved the runner over, Logan O'Hoppe lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home the tying run. While the 27-year-old has yet to allow an earned run this season and has recorded four strikeouts across his first four appearances, this marked Brash's first slip in a high-leverage spot.

Earns win Monday Brash (1-0) earned the win Monday over the Yankees, allowing one hit while logging a strikeout in a scoreless inning.
Impact Brash kept the Yankees off the board in the top of the ninth inning, working around a Giancarlo Stanton one-out double, before the Mariners delivered a walk-off win in the bottom half of the frame. Brash has held opponents scoreless through his first two appearances (two innings) this season, allowing two hits and no walks. The right-hander is a key high-leverage option for Seattle ahead of closer Andres Munoz. Brash posted a 2.47 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP and 58:18 K:BB in 47.1 regular-season innings last year. He totaled four saves and 21 holds.
