Impact San Diego brought up Thompson and Nick Ramirez from Triple-A ahead of the series finale to provide some fresh arms after the team opted for a bullpen day in Saturday's 7-5 win. Thompson supplied a 5.89 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 18.1 innings at El Paso, so he likely won't be counted on for high-leverage work in his first stint in the big leagues.

Optioned to Triple-A Thompson was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Impact Thompson began spring training at major-league camp and allowed four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two over 2.1 innings during four three relief appearances this spring. The right-hander's contract was selected by the Padres in November to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, and it appears as though he'll advance to the Triple-A level to begin the year.
