Dealt to Kansas City The Royals acquired Black from the Giants on Tuesday in exchange for Logan Martin.
Impact Black had been designated for assignment by the Giants last week and will now join the Royals' 40-man roster. The 25-year-old spent most of this season at Triple-A Sacramento, where he held a 5.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP alongside a 114:62 K:BB over 119.1 innings. Black has been used mostly as a starting pitcher to this point in his pro career, though it's not known whether the Royals intend to keep him in that role. The righty has minor-league options remaining.

Dropped from 40-man The Giants designated Black for assignment Thursday.
Impact Black spent the vast majority of the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Sacramento, where he struggled to the tune of a 5.81 ERA and 1.48 WHIP alongside a 114:62 K:BB over 119.1 innings. His poor performance will now cause him to lose his place on San Francisco's 40-man roster in favor of Reiver Sanmartin, who was claimed off waivers from the Reds in a corresponding move.

Longest MLB Home Runs in July: Where Do Ronald Acuña's Blasts Rank?
Demoted to Sacramento The Giants optioned Black to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday.
Impact Black ran into some struggles on the mound during his season debut Friday, giving up five runs (three earned) while striking out five batters in four innings out of the bullpen. He'll now return to the minor leagues in favor of Tristan Beck, who will provide the Giants with an additional fresh bullpen arm.

Struggles in season debut Black threw four relief innings in Friday's 11-2 loss to the Athletics, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits -- including two home runs -- while striking out five.
Impact Black made his season debut after being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. The right-hander entered the game in the fourth and allowed just one hit through his first two innings. However, things unraveled for the 25-year-old in the next two frames, as the Athletics extended their lead to 11-0 by the end of the seventh. Before joining the big-league club, Black made 14 starts in 15 appearances for Sacramento, posting a 4.75 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 70:42 K:BB across 72 innings.

Joining big-league squad The Giants recalled Black from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact Black has been in Triple-A all season and owns a 4.75 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP across 72 innings. He's worked almost exclusively as a starter throughout his professional career, but he'll likely be used in long relief while in San Francisco, replacing Carson Seymour in the bullpen.

Sent to Triple-A The Giants optioned Black to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Black coughed up five runs on five hits and three walks over his 3.1 innings of work this spring. The right-hander should be part of Sacramento's rotation to open the 2025 season and could help the Giants later on either as a starter or reliever.
MARCH 5, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Optioned to Sacramento The Giants optioned Black to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Impact Black was saddled with his fifth loss of the season Wednesday versus Arizona, allowing four earned runs on five hits and five walks across just 2.2 innings. Now that his spot in the rotation won't be needed for the rest of the season, the Giants will send him back to the minors and insert Randy Rodriguez (elbow) back into their bullpen.

Issues five walks in loss Black (1-5) took the loss against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, allowing four runs on five hits and five walks over 2.2 innings while striking out three.
Impact Black had a miserable second inning, allowing back-to-back hits to open the frame and failing to retire five of the first six batters he faced while seeing three runs come across for Arizona. The right-hander continued to struggle in the third, allowing three walks and an infield single before eventually being relieved by Sean Hjelle with two outs. Black's five walks on the night marked a season high and he's now lost four of his last five starts. It also tied for his shortest outing of the campaign after hurling a season-high 5.2 innings in his previous start against the Royals.
SEPTEMBER 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up first career win Black (1-4) earned the win Friday at Kansas City, pitching 5.2 scoreless frames while allowing four hits and one walk. He struck out four.
Impact The rookie right-hander turned in the best performance of his young career with this 84-pitch outing -- his first scoreless start. Black had been on a cold spell before this contest, pitching to a 5.27 ERA across 13.2 innings since re-entering the rotation Aug. 31. The 24-year-old managed to lower his season ERA from 7.07 to 5.88, as he now sports a 1.51 WHIP and 28:10 K:BB over 33.2 innings. Black is tentatively scheduled to make his last start against the Cardinals at home next week.
SEPTEMBER 21, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Allows one earned run in loss Black (0-4) took the loss against the Padres on Saturday, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk over four innings while striking out two.
Impact The Padres got to Black early, tagging the right-hander for one run in the opening frame following a double from Manny Machado, though the run was unearned on account of a fielding error by Heliot Ramos. The 24-year-old would then get through the next two innings unscathed before surrendering a solo homer to Xander Bogaerts in the fourth. It marked the sixth time in seven outings this season that Black was unable to get through five innings, though it was also just the second time over that span that he allowed only one earned run. Additionally, he's given up a home run in all seven outings and is still looking for his first win on the campaign.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Shaky in third loss Black (0-3) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six over 4.2 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Padres.
Impact The Padres pounced early with a three-run first inning. Black was able to settle in a bit, but he gave up one more run in the fifth, making this the fourth time in six outings (five starts) he's given up at least four runs. The right-hander has pitched to a 7.50 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB through 24 innings in the majors this season. Despite the poor outing, Black could continue to get starts in September after Kyle Harrison (shoulder) joined Robbie Ray (hamstring) on the injured list. Black is tentatively projected to make his next start at home in a rematch with the Padres.
SEPTEMBER 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Rewarded with another start Black is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Padres in San Diego.
Impact Black turned in an ugly 8.79 ERA and 1.95 WHIP during his four starts with the Giants in May, but he staged a successful return to the big-league rotation this past Saturday, when he limited the Marlins to two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out six over five innings. The right-hander had shown improved form at Triple-A Sacramento in August prior to getting the call back to the Giants, but the matchup with a weak Miami offense still may have played a big part in Black's success. He'll get a tougher draw Friday against a Padres lineup that recently welcomed back Fernando Tatis, so Black could struggle to build upon his positive showing his last time out.

Allows two runs in loss Black (0-2) took the loss against the Marlins on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits over five innings while striking out six.
Impact Black struck out three of the first four batters he faced in the contest before allowing three hits in the second, including a two-run homer off the bat of Griffin Conine. The rookie right-hander recovered nicely, however, hurling three consecutive scoreless from that point on until he was relieved by Taylor Rogers to open the sixth. Black's five innings on the mound marked a season high, as did his six strikeouts on the night. On the downside, he's now allowed a home run in all five of his outings this season.

SEPTEMBER 1, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Promoted for start The Giants recalled Black from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of his start Saturday versus the Marlins.
Impact The loss of Robbie Ray (hamstring) created an opening in the Giants' rotation, and Black will now come up from the minors to plug the gap. The 24-yera-old righty hasn't been impressive in his MLB career so far (8.79 ERA through 14.1 innings), but he's built some momentum in Triple-A with several consecutive solid outings, and he'll have the benefit in facing a Marlins offense that ranks 29th in the big leagues in total runs scored this year (509). Austin Warren was optioned to Sacramento in a corresponding move.
AUGUST 31, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Named Saturday's starter The Giants will recall Black from Triple-A Sacramento to start Saturday's game against the Marlins, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact Across four MLB outings, Black has allowed 14 earned runs over 14.1 frames, and he hasn't appeared in a game for the Giants since May 23. However, he's turned in a 2.91 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 21.2 innings in Triple-A since the start of August, so he'll have momentum on his side as he faces the NL's lowest-scoring offense.
AUGUST 31, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Optioned to Triple-A The Giants optioned Black to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Impact Black was recalled from Sacramento ahead of Tuesday's contest, but he will now return to the minors without appearing in a game. The 24-year-old right-hander owns an 8.79 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 14.1 innings with the Giants this season but the lack of depth in San Francisco's rotation could allow him to return to the majors if needed for a spot start. Hayden Birdsong was selected from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
JUNE 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled from Sacramento The Giants recalled Black from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Black was dispatched to Triple-A in May after allowing 14 earned runs in 14.1 innings through his first four MLB appearances. He has since performed even worse in the minors (11.93 ERA, 2.72 WHIP in 14.1 innings), but he should be a part of the Giants' pitching plan for Tuesday's game against the Cubs once opening pitcher Randy Rodriguez exits the contest. Raymond Burgos was optioned to Sacramento in a corresponding move.
JUNE 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Not starting Thursday Black won't start Thursday's contest against the Pirates.
Impact After being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento last Friday and making a three-inning start later that day, Black was slated to make his second straight turn through the rotation Thursday. He could still end up pitching in the series finale in Pittsburgh, but if he does, he'll be deployed as a bulk reliever out of the bullpen behind Erik Miller, who will open the game but will likely only cover an inning or two. Black has struggled in his three starts for the Giants this season, allowing 10 earned runs with an 8:5 K:BB over 11.2 frames.

Set for major-league debut Black is expected to be called up from Triple-A Sacramento and start Monday's contest against the Phillies, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Impact Black is set for his major-league debut in Philadelphia, joining the Giants' big-league roster after producing a sparkling 1.01 ERA and 0.92 WHIP with 29 strikeouts over 26.2 innings in six starts with Sacramento this season. The right-hander will be given a tall task facing the Phillies but with Blake Snell (thigh) still unavailable, Black will have a chance at sticking around San Francisco's rotation with a strong performance.
