INJURIES

Likely done for season Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said Tuesday that Raley is expected to miss the rest of the season after sustaining a left forearm strain, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times...
Impact Per MLB.com, Raley had been dealing with discomfort in his forearm/elbow for multiple weeks before the Mariners elected to place him on the injured list Saturday. The Mariners are still deciding on a treatment plan for Raley, with surgery seemingly not being ruled out. A right-handed thrower, Raley won't be affected by the injury in the field, but since he bats from the left side, he'll require a lengthy recovery even if he's able to avoid surgery and instead treats the injury with rest and rehab. Raley's injury was likely a major factor in the Mariners' acquisition Monday of Taylor Ward, who served as a designated hitter in Tuesday's loss to the Tigers but is expected to serve as Raley's primary replacement in right field.

Mariners place outfielder Luke Raley on the injured list with left forearm strain

The Seattle Mariners placed outfielder Luke Raley on the 10-day injured list on Saturday due to a left forearm strain
AUGUST 1 • Associated Press
Placed on injured list The Mariners placed Raley (elbow) on the 10-day injured list Saturday, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
Impact Raley has reportedly been battling soreness in his elbow for a while and missed Friday's game because of it, so the Mariners will now place him on the shelf. The severity of his injury is unknown, but he'll likely undergo imaging within the next several days to help determine exactly what he's dealing with and when he might be able to return. In the meantime, Victor Robles is likely to take over as Seattle's primary right fielder.
AUGUST 1 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting again Saturday Raley (elbow) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Twins.
Impact The 31-year-old's absence Saturday could be attributed to southpaw Connor Prielipp starting on the mound for Minnesota, but Raley will get another day to recover from elbow soreness all the same. Dominic Canzone will start in right field as a result, moving Cal Raleigh into the DH spot while Mitch Garver starts at catcher.
AUGUST 1 • ROTOWIRE
Nursing elbow injury Raley is not in the Mariners' starting lineup against the Twins on Friday due to elbow soreness, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Raley likely picked up the injury during the Mariners' most recent series against the Dodgers. He'll be on the bench for Friday's series opener while Victor Robles starts in right field and bats ninth.

Sitting vs lefty Raley is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Dodgers.
Impact The Dodgers have southpaw Justin Wrobleski on the mound Tuesday, so the left-handed-hitting Raley will take a seat for the first time since July 12. Dominic Canzone is started in right field for Raley as Rob Refsnyder is inserted as the designated hitter.

Gilbert has 10 strikeouts in 6 innings, Raley and Young hit HRs as Mariners beat Giants 6-3

Logan Gilbert had 10 strikeouts across six strong innings, Luke Raley and Cole Young homered, and the Seattle Mariners beat the San Francisco Giants 6-3

Hits go-ahead homer Raley went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Giants.
Impact Raley came off the bench for Weston Wilson in the sixth inning and delivered a go-ahead homer. Raley had gone 21 games without a long balls, batting just .164 with three RBI and a 3:20 BB:K in that span. He's hitting .230 with a .746 OPS, 15 homers, 37 RBI, 26 runs scored, one stolen base, nine doubles and a triple over 85 contests. The recent downward trend could lead to him becoming a bench bat if he doesn't turn things around, though he should still see a decent amount of time against right-handed pitchers as a left-handed hitter.
JULY 19 • ROTOWIRE
Heading to bench Sunday Raley is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.
Impact With southpaw Ian Seymour on the bump for the Rays, the left-handed-hitting Raley will take a seat for the first time since June 30. Weston Wilson will get the nod in right field in place of Raley, who went 5-for-30 with a 0:11 BB:K while starting the Mariners' first nine games of the month.

3 Mariners who should be worried about their jobs at the start of July The Mariners need to start trimming the fat of their roster, and that may have implications for Rob Refsnyder, Victor Robles and Luke Raley.
JULY 4 • SODOMOJO.COM
Back in action Thursday Raley (forearm) will start in right field and bat seventh Thursday against the Angels.
Impact Raley has missed each of the Mariners' last three games while dealing with a sore left forearm, but the issue appears to have subsided ahead of Thursday's series finale. He'll be looking to turn things around offensively after posting just a .398 OPS in 61 plate appearances during June.
JULY 2 • ROTOWIRE
Mariners' injury plans for Dominic Canzone, Luke Raley are from a failed playbook The Mariners want Luke Raley and Dominic Canzone to play through their injuries, which has a proven track record as a bad idea.
JULY 1 • SODOMOJO.COM
Remaining on bench Tuesday Raley (forearm) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels.
Impact Raley will stay on the bench for a third straight game while he continues to deal with soreness in his non-throwing forearm. Weston Wilson will pick up the start in right field in Raley's stead.
JUNE 30 • ROTOWIRE
Remaining out of lineup Raley (forearm) remains out of the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Angels.
Impact It's the second straight start Raley has missed as he deals with soreness in his left (non-throwing) forearm. He is considered day-to-day. Victor Robles will grab another start in right field for the Mariners while Raley rests.
JUNE 29 • ROTOWIRE
Out Sunday with elbow discomfort Raley is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians due to elbow discomfort, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Though he played the full nine innings while going 0-for-3 with a walk over four plate appearances in Saturday's 4-3 loss, Raley reportedly tweaked his elbow on a swing at some point during the contest. The Mariners will give him at least one game off to rest his elbow, clearing the way for Victor Robles to pick up a start in right field in the series finale in Cleveland.
JUNE 28 • ROTOWIRE
Back in action Tuesday Raley (illness) is starting in right field and batting sixth Tuesday against the Pirates.
Impact Raley is in the starting lineup for the first time since June 14, as he missed all three games versus Baltimore last week due to back tightness and the flu before the Red Sox started three straight left-handed pitchers over the weekend. The veteran outfielder has been productive this year with 14 homers, 35 RBI, 24 runs and an .801 OPS in 211 plate appearances, but he's racked up just 17 plate appearances versus southpaws and should continue operate as a strong-side platoon player in right field.
