Re-signs with Cincinnati The Reds re-signed Maile to a one-year contract Thursday with a club option for 2025.

Impact Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports that the guaranteed value of the deal is $3.5 million. Maile owns an underwhelming .212/.275/.328 career batting line in 380 major-league games, but the 32-year-old catcher has a solid defensive reputation and will return as an active backup to Tyler Stephenson, who often gets starts in the DH role.

Contributes to comeback win Maile went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 11-7 win over the Guardians.

Impact Maile and the rest of the lineup overcame a short outing from starter Hunter Greene (three IP, seven runs, three HR). The journeyman catcher belted a solo home run in the third third inning then lashed a two-run single in the fifth which plated the game-winning run. Maile has six home runs, 25 RBI and a .723 OPS over 75 games.

Impact Maile got the Reds on the board with a two-run shot off Alex Cobb in the bottom of the third and later added two singles, giving him his first three-hit game of the season. The catcher was 0-for-11 at the plate in July coming in while the home run was his first since May 20 against the Yankees. It marked Maile's fourth multi-hit game of his 2023 campaign.

Impact It was the first steal since 2019 for Maile, who's started three of the Reds' last four games behind the plate, with Tyler Stephenson getting more time at DH. The 32-year-old Maile has made the most of his expanded role, going 4-for-10 with two homers and four RBI in that span. While it's still hard to envision Maile becoming a regular fantasy option, he's gotten off to a nice start this season, slashing .286/.348/.548 with five RBI and six runs scored through 46 plate appearances.

Tyler Stephenson will likely remain Cincinnati's primary option behind the plate, but Maile could still see a good chunk of playing time in 2023 as a backup.
