Parts ways with Kansas City The Royals granted Maile's request to be released from his contract Sunday.

Impact Maile inked a minor-league contract in February but won't stick around after missing the Opening Day roster. The 34-year-old played in 55 games for the Reds last season and had a .178/.268/.252 slash line in 154 plate appearances.

Inks minor-league deal with Royals Maile and the Royals agreed on a minor-league contract Sunday.

Impact Maile appeared in 55 games with the Reds in 2024, batting .178 with two home runs, eight RBI, eight runs scored and two stolen bases over 135 at-bats. The catcher will attend spring training with Kansas City and he'll look to impress in order to potentially secure a spot on the Royals' 26-man roster at some point in 2025.

Hopeful for abbreviated IL stint Reds manager David Bell said Friday that he's hopeful that Maile (back) will be ready to return from the 10-day injured list shortly after the All-Star break, MLB.com reports.

Impact Maile was diagnosed with a herniated disc and placed on the IL on Friday after he had previously complained of a nerve issue on the lower right side near his hip following the Reds' 8-4 win over the Yankees on Thursday. Bell said that Maile has already received an injection to treat the injury, so the veteran backstop could be cleared to resume baseball activities once the shot takes full effect. Austin Wynns was called up from Triple-A Louisville on Friday and will serve as the backup to Tyler Stephenson while Maile is on the shelf.
