Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Severino was cleared of any structural damage to his right shoulder after receiving a second medical opinion, Brendan Kuty of The New...
Impact
Severino hasn't made an appearance for the Yankees since the 2019 postseason after undergoing Tommy John surgery in February 2020, but the health of his right elbow no longer appears to be a concern. The right-hander previously had a minor-league rehab assignment halted in mid-June when he incurred a Grade 2 groin strain, and after restarting his rehab assignment earlier this month, he made just two appearances for Double-A Somerset before experiencing tightness in his right shoulder. While he was fortunate to avoid any major damage to the shoulder, Severino's uncertain timeline to resume throwing could make it a challenge for him to make it back to the Yankees before the end of the season. If Severino does get activated from the 60-day injured list, he may have to work out of the bullpen, given the lack of time he'll have to build up his pitch count for starting duties.

Won't throw this week
Severino (elbow/groin) is still waiting on a second opinion on his right shoulder but will not throw for the remainder of the week, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Impact
Severino suffered a setback in his recovery from Tommy John surgery last week and was scratched from a scheduled rehab start after his shoulder didn't feel right. He underwent an MRI, which the Yankees sent out for a second opinion Monday. That opinion is expected to come in the next day or two, at which point Severino's next steps should become clearer.

Slated for second opinion
Severino (elbow/groin) will receive a second opinion on his right shoulder in the coming days, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Impact
Severino underwent an MRI on Monday, but the Yankees haven't revealed the results. However, the right-hander wants to get insight from Dr. Neal ElAttrache before determining the next step in his recovery process. Severino had his rehab assignment paused after he was scratched from Friday's rehab start at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and a better idea of his status will likely be known once he receives his second opinion.

Visiting doctor Monday
Severino (elbow/groin) will visit a doctor Monday to get his tight shoulder checked out. He will undergo an MRI, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Impact
Severino has experienced multiple setbacks as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery, a procedure he underwent in February of last year. His rehab was first paused in June due to a groin strain and hit another snag Friday, as he was scratched due to tightness in his shoulder. The Yankees are framing the latest pause as precautionary, but it's hard not to worry about a shoulder issue for a pitcher. Clarity on his return timeline should emerge following Monday's visit.

Rehab assignment paused
Severino (groin/elbow) will return to New York to be evaluated after he was scratched from Friday's rehab start at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Triple-A manager Doug Davis said that Severino "didn't feel right" while warming up Friday, so the team held him out as a precaution. While Davis is optimistic that the right-hander isn't dealing with a serious issue, more clarity regarding his status will likely be revealed once he meets with team doctors.

Scratched from rehab start
Severino (groin/elbow) was scratched from his rehab start at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday due to an injury, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports.
Impact
The weather ahead of Friday's minor-league contest looked questionable, so the reason for Severino's scratch wasn't initially known. However, the right-hander told the team that something didn't feel right while he was warming up, so he was shut down. Triple-A manager Doug Davis didn't know what injury led to Severino being scratched, and it's not yet clear what impact the issue will have on his return timetable.
