INJURIES

Retreats to bench Monday Rengifo is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact Rengifo had started in seven of the Angels' last eight games, but his opportunities may become more sporadic moving forward while the Halos have all their key position players following the recent returns for Anthony Rendon from the injured list and Hunter Renfroe from the paternity list. Because he's capable of playing all three outfield spots in addition to second base, third base and shortstop, Rengifo will at least have multiple avenues to get into the lineup on days that manager Phil Nevin chooses to rest any of his regulars.
JUNE 12, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Homer, steal in Wednesday's win Rengifo went 2-for-4 with a home run, a stolen base, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Cubs.
Impact Rengifo homered for the second time three games, and he's gone 7-for-16 (.438) through five contests in June. He also recorded his fifth steal of the season, his first since May 19, putting him one shy of matching his career high. The infielder typically doesn't add a ton of pop or speed, but he's seemingly starting to rediscover his 2022 form. He's still got work to do with his season slash line at .224/.311/.333 through 167 plate appearances.
JUNE 8, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Finds power in win Rengifo went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Astros.
Impact Rengifo took J.P. France deep to right center for in the sixth to knot the game up at one apiece. It was the 26-year-old's first home run since May 4 and just his third of the year. Rengifo surprised everyone last season by clubbing 17 homers in 127 games, which was good for fourth on the team, but that power has not translated over to this season. He continues to own a low strikeout rate (18.8 percent) and is taking more walks this season (10.8 percent in comparison to just 3.4 percent last year) but is slashing just .221/.313/.314 with 17 RBI, 21 runs and a 17:30 BB:K over 160 plate appearances.
JUNE 5, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Collects three hits in win Rengifo went 3-for-4 with two runs, a walk and a stolen base in a 6-5 victory versus Baltimore on Thursday.
Impact Rengifo reached four times in the contest, the first time this season he has accomplished that feat. The utility man also swiped his third bag of the campaign and scored two of the Angels' six runs. Rengifo's three hits Thursday matched the total he had produced over his previous 10 contests, a stretch during which he went 3-for-26 without an extra-base hit.
MAY 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Heads to bench Wednesday Rengifo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
Impact Brandon Drury will step in at second base Wednesday, after Rengifo had occupied the position in each of the previous three games while going 1-for-11 with a run scored. Despite taking a seat Wednesday, Rengifo should have a path to steady playing time in the infield until the Angels return one of Jared Walsh (migraines) or Anthony Rendon (groin) from the 10-day injured list.
MAY 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
On bench for third straight Rengifo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact Rengifo started four consecutive games to close out last week, but he's found himself on the bench for all three games of the series with Houston. Though he looks like he'll be relegated to a utility role for now, Rengifo's ability to play multiple spots in the infield and outfield means he should still enter the lineup at least semi-regularly.
MAY 10, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Nabs fourth straight start Rengifo will start at second base and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Rangers, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Impact Rengifo will stick in the starting nine for the fourth consecutive game, with the 26-year-old garnering three turns at second base and one in right field over that stretch. The Angels still appear to be viewing Rengifo as more of a utility player, but his defensive flexibility and ability to switch-hit should afford him multiple starts per week.
MAY 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Enjoys big day at plate Rengifo went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two total runs and four total RBI in Thursday's 11-7 win against the Cardinals.
Impact Rengifo was the biggest producer on a day when the Angels pounded out a season-high 16 hits. The utility man gave Los Angeles its first lead with a three-run homer in the second inning and added another RBI with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. This was Rengifo's first three-hit game of the campaign and his first multi-hit performance since April 10.
MAY 5, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Absent from lineup Rengifo is not in the Angels' lineup for Friday's game in Milwaukee.
Impact Rengifo has struggled to get going in 2023 after last season's mini-breakout. The utility player has seen most of his action at second base this season but Brandon Drury will be at the keystone Friday.
APRIL 28, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Swipes second bag Rengifo went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Athletics.
Impact Rengifo got started with a single and a stolen base and would come around to score after the Angels tacked on four runs against Mason Miller in the opening frame. The 26-year-old is slashing just .203/.338/.266 with only two extra base hits, seven RBI, 12 runs and an 11:16 BB:K over 77 plate appearances. Rengifo is known for being an aggressive hitter but is currently walking at a 14.7 percent clip, which would be the best mark of his career.
APRIL 26, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Gets fourth straight start Rengifo will start at second base and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Royals.
Impact Rengifo will pick up his fourth consecutive start, with two coming at the keystone and two coming in the outfield. Though he's reached base five times in 11 plate appearances over the previous three games, Rengifo is still sitting on a .616 OPS for the season. He'll likely need to string together several more solid offensive performances before moving out of his current utility role and staking his claim to an everyday gig.
APRIL 23, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Takes seat Monday Rengifo is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Impact Rengifo will sit for the second time in three days while Brandon Drury picks up another start at the keystone at his expense. Though he started at shortstop in Friday's series opener in Boston, Rengifo has now ceded the position to top prospect Zach Neto for three straight days. With Neto seemingly locked into an everyday role and Drury beginning to gain traction as the Halos' primary second baseman, Rengifo could be transitioning into more of a utility role that may include occasional work in the corner outfield, where he made a start Sunday.

Homers, swipes bag Saturday Rengifo went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 9-5 win against Toronto.
Impact Rengifo has gotten off to a slow start this season, batting .167 through his first 31 plate appearances. However, he's at least shown good plate discipline with a 6:3 BB:K, and he notched both his first long ball and his first theft Saturday. Rengifo has started all but one of the Angels' eight contests thus far, so he appears to have an everyday role despite the team's more-crowded infield this season.

Trout's 3-run homer powers Angels' rally past Toronto, 9-5

Mike Trout hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning, and the Los Angeles Angels rallied from a four-run deficit for a 9-5 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays
APRIL 9, 2023 • Associated Press
Getting night off Friday Rengifo is not in the lineup Friday against the Blue Jays.
Impact David Fletcher will start at shortstop and bat ninth, with Brandon Drury covering second base and hitting sixth. This is the first day off of the season for Rengifo, who has drawn five walks but carries a .150 average and .496 OPS through 26 plate appearances.

Added to lineup Rengifo is hitting eighth and playing shortstop Monday against Seattle, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.
Impact Rengifo was originally on the bench, but Anthony Rendon will begin serving his four-game suspension Monday and he'll be Rendon's replacement. Gio Urshela moves to third base after originally being listed as the shortstop against George Kirby and the Mariner staff.
APRIL 4, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Opening on bench Monday Rengifo is out of the starting lineup for Monday's game against Seattle.
Impact Rengifo went hitless in the three-game series against the Athletics to open the year and will begin this contest on the bench. Brandon Drury gets the start at second base while Jake Lamb will hit sixth against George Kirby and the Seattle staff.
APRIL 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Team concerned about WBC time Angels manager Phil Nevin expressed concern about Rengifo's lack of playing time with Venezuela during the World Baseball Classic, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Impact Nevin's comments came before Venezuela was ousted from the tournament by Team USA on Saturday, but it remains to be seen if Rengifo's minimal playing time will have any impact on his readiness for the regular season. The infielder got just six at-bats during the tournament, collecting one hit (a single) and scoring two runs. Rengifo will presumably return to the Angels in short order and should have more opportunities to play as the team wraps up its Cactus League schedule.

Could get work in RF Angels manager Phil Nevin indicated that Rengifo could play right field occasionally this season as well as during his time with Team Venezuela during the World Baseball Classic, D...
Impact Rengifo started in right field in Thursday's Cactus League contest against Kansas City and was charged with a throwing error in the fourth inning. He's not a complete stranger to the position -- he logged 103 innings there between 2021 and 2022 -- but hasn't shown great acumen for the outfield thus far. The Angels' infield is much more crowded this year with the additions of Brandon Drury and Gio Urshela as well as the return to health of both Anthony Rendon and David Fletcher, so Rengifo could help himself see more at-bats if he's able to gain the team's confidence as a capable outfielder.
