Shohei Ohtani - Expected to get rest day Thursday Ohtani is slated to be out of the starting lineup Thursday in the Dodgers' series finale against Colorado, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Impact Ohtani hasn't been given a rest day so far this year, though he did miss two contests in April while on the paternity list. The decision doesn't seem to have anything to do with the All-Star's performance at the plate -- he's reached base safely in 17 straight contests and has slashed .381/.506/.746 with six homers, 10 RBI, 20 runs, four stolen bases and a 16:21 BB:K during that span. Rather, manager Dave Roberts may just want to make sure Ohtani doesn't wear down in the dog days of the summer, especially as the two-way star continues to pitch deeper into games when he takes the mound -- per Ardaya, the plan is for Ohtani to go five frames in his start Wednesday in Colorado. That evening game is followed by a day game Thursday, which also very likely played into the decision to give Ohtani a breather. Will Smith is expected to get a day off his feet behind the plate and serve as the team's DH on Thursday.

Impact Smith added insurance runs with his RBI singles in the seventh and ninth innings. He snapped out of a small slump with his first multi-hit performance since Aug. 11; he was 1-for-14 since. Smith has just one extra-base hit over his last 12 appearances. Still, he owns a terrific .308/.415/.511 slash line with 56 RBI and 59 runs scored through 98 games.

Alex Call - Knocks four hits Call went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Rockies.
Impact Call entered Tuesday's game 4-for-23 (.174) since joining the Dodgers, and he doubled that hit total with a big performance. He drilled a solo homer in the second inning, followed by an RBI single and another run scored in the third. He added a double in the fifth before capping off his night with a single in the seventh. Call is now slashing .286/.375/.464 with 17 extra-base hits and 37 runs through 270 plate appearances this season.

Emmet Sheehan - Yields four runs in win Sheehan (4-2) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over six innings Tuesday, striking out seven and earning a win over Colorado.
Impact Sheehan coughed up a pair of two-run homers in the victory, first to Brenton Doyle in the fourth inning before Kyle Karros knocked one in the sixth. Sheehan allowed 10 runs over 30 innings in his first seven appearances this season, but has since been tagged with nine runs in his last two outings. His season ERA has jumped from 3.00 to 4.17 during that span. On the bright side, he generated a season-high 15 whiffs Tuesday, including 10 with his slider. Sheehan will carry a 44:15 K:BB into his next matchup, which is slated to be at home against the Reds next week.
